Business Unit (BU) Risk provides first line risk management support to the four business units in Workplace Financial Services: Retirement Plan Services, Retirement Business Services, Stock Plan Services, and Designated Brokerage Services.
The BU Risk Senior Manager (PL) will be responsible for leading a team who performs oversight activities to monitor and ensure business unit adherence with policies, standards, business unit procedures and guidelines. This position is also responsible for the oversight, reconciliation and reporting of losses associated with Workplace Services. This role will require excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with numerous business partners across the entire organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate efforts with key business partners in the management of BU Risk initiatives
- Provide consultation, facilitation, and analytical support to ensure internal controls are properly implemented to provide flawless client service and compliance with regulatory obligations
- Provide project updates and status to key stakeholders at the appropriate level of detail to enable action to be taken on issues
- Identify areas of process and control weakness, develop solutions, and monitor implementation
- Collaborate with executives and line management to create, sustain, and strengthen the internal control framework through risk identification and control design and implementation
- Oversee loss program and monthly reconciliations of write-off accounts, trade error accounts and related general ledger accounts to ensure accurate loss reporting.
- Oversee and monitor tools created to document and report risk related metrics for firm level loss reporting and business unit level risk trending and analysis.
- Lead and monitor initiatives to review inter-departmental processes and procedures, and make and execute proposals to enhance productivity, efficiency and ensure adequate controls are in place.
- Lead annual records retention program by collaborating with Compliance and business partners to ensure records are reviewed and certified as required.
- Develop centralized oversight functions by analyzing business units for common gaps within supervisory processes.
- Meet regularly with individual team members to provide coaching, support, and direction in a constructive manner to help improve performance
- Recruit, select, coach, recognize and champion great talent. Effectively interview, evaluate, and be collectively accountable for hiring candidates that fit into Schwab’s Strategic Framework
What you have
To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in Business, Technology, Accounting or equivalent experience required
- 5+ years of experience in risk management or similar role
- At least 2 years of experience leading a team or displaying a strong transferable skillset
- Ability to work independently and proactively, with minimum guidance
- Strong project management skills including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing based on risk/business needs
- Experience presenting and communicating to Executive Management
- Ability to effectively work and collaborate with technical and non-technical resources
- Excellent time management and related organizational skills, including appropriate sense of urgency, a proactive approach, and a suitable ability to anticipate and manage project lifecycle events, issues and obstacles
- Solid business acumen, attention to detail, flexibility, and judgment to evaluate issues/problems of high complexity and make sound decisions
Preferred:
- At least 3-5 years demonstrative of skills and professional experience that would support effective execution of the responsibilities in this job description in a supervisory, compliance, and/or risk management environment in the financial services industry.
