The Human Resources (HR) Risk Management team supports all business units across HR and Corporate Real Estate (CRE) to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risk.

As a Senior Manager, Business Unit Risk, you will collaborate with other members of HR, CRE, and crossenterprise stakeholders including Compliance, Operational and Enterprise Risk Management, Technology, Internal Audit, the First Line Risk Management Office, and regulatory partners. You will play a critical role in strengthening our risk culture, advancing key risk programs, and ensuring controls are effective and aligned with firmwide standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen and maintain a robust risk culture across HR and CRE through partnership, education, and strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Support Identity and Access Management Standard activities, ensuring appropriate access management controls are implemented and monitored.
  • Ensure HR and CRE issues are accurately identified, documented, and remediated in MyGRC in alignment with the Issue Management Standard.
  • Lead facilitation, documentation, and remediation efforts for HR and CRE Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) within MyGRC.
  • Build a deep understanding of HR and CRE processes, roles, risks, and controls to guide effective risk
  • Implement and oversee policies, standards, and procedures that support the enterprise risk management framework.
  • Partner with the Operational Risk Management (ORM) Liaison on Enterprise and Operational Risk Management initiatives and program updates.
  • Deliver clear, concise written and verbal updates on risk initiatives, process changes, and emerging topics to business stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the quarterly Business Unit Risk Committee and ensure timely action on decisions and follow-ups.
  • Prepare and present key risk reports and communications for HR and CRE Risk Committees, governance forums, senior leaders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Build strong, cross-functional partnerships with HR and CRE leaders to identify, assess, document, and monitor risks and controls.
  • Support partners during audits, independent testing, reviews, and regulatory engagements across all lines of defense.
  • Consult with stakeholders including HR, Regulatory Liaison Office, Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, and the First Line Risk Management Office.
  • Educate risk owners on best practices and collaborate with risk functions to strengthen control design and execution.
  • Support adverse event identification, escalation, and reporting processes across HR and CRE.
  • Participate in First Line Risk Management Office meetings and provide timely and relevant updates to leaders.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to perform effectively in a highpressure environment.
  • Engage actively in Schwab risk communities and share insights, trends, and updates with key stakeholders.
  • Identify and document conflicts of interest and emerging risks to support proactive mitigation efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a risk management and/or HR role.
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated environment and collaborating with regulators and auditors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in HR, CRE, Operational Risk, Compliance, or related risk disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for business and regulatory audiences.
  • Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to build collaborative, trusted relationships across the organization.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and comfort managing multiple priorities.
  • Skilled at presenting complex information to Senior Leadership.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Effective collaborator with both technical and non‑technical partners.
  • Creative approach to improving processes while maintaining strong controls.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to assess complex issues and deliver solutions.
  • Knowledge of financial services and familiarity with HR‑related regulations.
  • Experience writing policies, procedures, or technical documentation.
  • Understanding of process, risk, and control mapping; experience building risk monitoring frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies (OCC, SEC, FRB) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, and Visio.
  • Curiosity, a challenger mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to contribute to a highly engaged team.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
