At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

This role supports Advice and Managed Investing platforms that enable Schwab representatives and clients to plan for their financial futures.
The Senior Scrum Master is a servant leader who enables teams and programs to deliver predictably, efficiently, and at scale. In addition to team‑level Scrum Master responsibilities, this role is expected to operate at the program level, including performing Release Train Engineer (RTE) responsibilities when needed.
What You’ll Do
Agile & Team Leadership
- Serve as a servant leader and coach, ensuring Scrum and agile principles are understood, applied effectively, and aligned with Schwab Agile teachings.
- Facilitate core agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Reviews, Retrospectives, Refinement) and ensure teams remain focused on delivering high‑quality, potentially releasable increments.
- Partner closely with Product Owners to support effective backlog management, prioritization, and delivery planning.
- Identify and remove impediments, manage risks, and protect teams from distractions that interfere with delivery.
Program‑Level & RTE Leadership
- Act as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) when required, facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect & Adapt events, and other program‑level ceremonies across multiple teams.
- Provide program‑level execution oversight, coordinating delivery across teams, Product Management, Architecture, and business stakeholders.
- Identify, manage, and resolve cross‑team dependencies, risks, and delivery constraints, escalating appropriately to maintain predictable outcomes.
- Coach Scrum Masters and teams on scaled agile practices, fostering continuous improvement and maturity across the program or Agile Release Train.
Metrics, Transparency & Executive Communication
- Generate and communicate the right level of metrics and insights for senior leadership, focusing on outcomes, delivery predictability, risks, and trends rather than team‑level activity.
- Translate complex delivery data into clear, actionable views that enable informed decision‑making by technology and business leaders.
- Maintain transparency and predictability through effective use of Jira, Jira Portfolio, dashboards, and delivery metrics.
Pragmatic Agile Optimization
- Continuously evaluate and optimize agile practices across teams, ensuring ceremonies, artifacts, and processes are fit‑for‑purpose, efficient, and value‑adding.
- Ensure agile execution supports delivery and collaboration without creating unnecessary overhead or meeting fatigue.
- Balance discipline and flexibility by simplifying where possible and scaling only where necessary, allowing teams to spend maximum time delivering value.
Leadership & Management Expectations
- Lead and coordinate program‑level planning and execution, aligning teams to shared goals, milestones, and delivery commitments.
- Promote a pragmatic, outcome‑driven agile mindset that emphasizes accountability, efficiency, and sustainable delivery.
- Enable effective decision‑making by reinforcing transparency, clarity, and disciplined execution at scale.
- Build strong relationships with engineers, Product Management, Architecture, vendors, and business partners.
- Support organizational agility through continuous improvement, leveraging retrospectives and Inspect & Adapt outcomes.
