The Trading eXperience Technology team (TXT) at Charles Schwab is responsible for creating industry leading trading interface components on Schwab.com and trading services shared across Schwab.com and Schwab Mobile for millions of retail investors and active traders engaging the markets.
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr Specialist III) with a strong background in test automation, API and service validation, data migration testing, and AI-assisted quality engineering within the trading platform space. In this role, you will work with experienced IT professionals, full-stack developers, and SDETs to build and validate applications and services that support Schwab’s trading platforms. You will contribute in a fast-paced Agile environment with a focus on automation testing, test frameworks, test infrastructure, automation code, test tools, and large-scale data migration testing for client account and watchlist data.
•Develop, execute, and maintain automated test cases and test scenarios for high-volume, low-latency web, desktop, API, Microsoft SSIS/ETL, and related QA testing platforms.
•Design and implement test automation frameworks for web services, APIs, symbology conversion rules, trading watchlist data, and web and mobile applications handling large-scale datasets.
•Monitor automation execution, analyze failures, document results, and promptly communicate defects, risks, and quality trends to the team.
•Partner with scrum team members to build scalable automation solutions that advance Schwab SDLC practices and support critical business objectives.
•Write and execute performance and load tests for multiple applications to measure scalability and stability.
•Design test cases and test plans for given acceptance criteria.
•Coordinate with scrum team members, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to integrate project plans, testing schedules, risk assessments, and metrics reporting.
•Understand application architecture, hosting infrastructure, dependency applications, and end-to-end feature workflows to assess integration risks and design effective test coverage.
•Provide complete quality coverage, including manual, exploratory, regression, and risk-based testing when automation is not feasible or appropriate.
•Perform browser compatibility testing for web applications.
•Bring deep experience developing automation for web, service, and server-side testing using modern development tools, frameworks, and engineering practices.

•Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
•7 years of hands-on experience with application programming, scripting, and test automation using Java or C#, JavaScript, Spec-driven development (SDD), Mabl or similar automation frameworks, HTTP clients, Swagger/OpenAPI, SAWT framework, Visual Studio, SQL Server, and Agile development practices.
•Proven experience in trading corporate actions with spec-driven development, translating detailed specifications into working, well-structured code.
•Ability to author and maintain clear technical specs, acceptance criteria, and design documents before implementation begins.
•Strong track record of keeping code, tests, and specifications synchronized throughout the development lifecycle.
•Skilled at decomposing specifications into phased, testable work items with defined dependencies and acceptance gates.
•Experience validating implementations against specs through automated tests and structured code reviews.
•Excellent collaboration and communication skills for aligning stakeholders on requirements and resolving spec-to-code discrepancies.
•Extensive experience testing trading applications such as Automated Investment Planning, Corporate Actions, Personalized News, web and mobile experiences, and integrations with dependency partners including Portfolio Account Services, Profile API, MDS, Quote Plant, CAT, and OAuth systems.
•Experience migrating or converting existing SOAP automation scripts to Mabl or similar tools, with extensive experience working with mainframe migration experience, ngOMS, dOMS, CAT, O2, Profile APIs, Sparks, Markit services, and other integration partners.
•Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and data structures, with the ability to contribute to development tasks using Java 21, C#, and .NET 6 when needed.
•Familiarity with Agile/Lean development and testing practices, including Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
•Prior experience testing large, phased data migrations and automating validation of business trading rules using SQL Server, ETL tools, and related data validation approaches.
•Strong familiarity with QA practices, including black-box testing, risk-based testing, system testing, regression testing, exploratory testing, defect triage, and test evidence documentation.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment while supporting multiple migration initiatives involving TDA data sources, Oracle, Aerospike, SQL Server, and DB2 mainframe systems.
•Experience with source control and Agile Tools (Bitbucket, Jira, Zephyr, Bamboo, GIT)
•Familiarity with web services standards and related testing tools such as Selenium, Coded UI, Postman, LoadRunner, BlazeMeter, JMeter, and comparable service and performance testing tools.
•Familiarity with troubleshooting production issues through log analysis, Splunk, Graffana dashboards, monitoring metrics, and collaboration with development and support teams.
