Schwab is recruiting a driven, results-oriented software quality assurance lead who shares our passion for technology, innovation and excellence. We are moving towards a Test-Driven development and Continuous Integration environment using GitHub.  The Software Developer in Test must be able to perform in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable software. The candidate will work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the overall software development lifecycle and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of software product releases. 

This position will be part of Digital Utilities Technology team at Schwab and we will focus on driving client-centricity, reducing time to market & increasing efficiency. What you'll do:

  • Lead and provide accountability on the technical strategy for testing and quality assurance on mission critical enterprise applications 
  • Develop and maintain enterprise scalable test automation frameworks 
  • Drive adoption of AI-enabled Quality Engineering practices to improve test coverage, defect detection, engineering productivity, and release confidence 
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development, testing, and agentic workflows across the software delivery lifecycle 
  • Promote excellent development practices for coded test frameworks, to include participating in code reviews and source control management 
  • Design test automation for web services, APIs, batch jobs and web-based platforms 
  • Partner with Engineering teams to embed AI-driven SDLC practices across requirements analysis, test design, automation development, validation, and production support 
  • Maintain tools used during test development including source control, test management and release systems 
  • Mentor peers and staff on quality engineering, network with other automation teams within Schwab and derive automation best practices for continuous improvement.  
  • Experience working with resources in different geographical locations and vendor partnerships  

What you have


To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field 
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance or Software Engineering 
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience automating build and release certification tasks as part of deployment practices and behaviors. 
  • 5+ years of hands-on testing experience in API testing 
  • Strong experience in Behavior Driven Development (BDD) using Gherkin languages like Cucumber or SpecFlow  
  • Experience with Performance and scalability testing tools like JMeter 
  • Lead AI-enabled Quality Engineering initiatives that improve test automation, defect detection, release quality, and engineering productivity. 
  • Understanding of QA practices (black box testing, risk-based testing, system testing, regression testing, exploration testing practices) 
  • Strong technical competency in an OOP language such as C#.NET/Java or an expert in test automation tools preferably in a Java/Maven/JMeter environment and the Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Zephyr, Confluence), Selenium or other industry leading tool sets 
  • Experience with UI testing tools like Protractor, Cucumber 
  • Team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written) to partner technically with Application Architects, Development, QA/Testing organizations and Business teams. 
  • Experience in SQL and No-SQL database testing and knowledge of basic database operations. 
  • Experience participating in E2E testing of complex workflows involving multiple systems and scenarios. 
  • Identify, pilot, and scale AI/GenAI capabilities that accelerate delivery, strengthen quality outcomes, and reduce operational risk. 
  • Coach and mentor engineers on effective use of AI tools, prompt engineering, AI-assisted automation development, and modern quality engineering practices. 
  • Knowledge of automated data generation for troubleshooting and replicating production issues. 
  • Working knowledge of Agile, Iterative development process and methodologies is essential. 
  • Passion for building solutions through automation, driven by innovation and commitment to lifelong learning. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills including ability to disseminate complex ideas in a simplified fashion 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Co-ordination with geographically distributed team 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience with Service Oriented Architecture Quality Assurance, and thorough knowledge of testing API orchestration layers and Real-Time Messaging interfaces such as Kafka and/or RabbitMQ 
  • Exposure to a regulatory environment (like Banking & Finance or Health care etc.) 
  • Experience in developing or influencing the development of scalable automated framework(s) that orchestrate enterprise level functional and regression testing is preferable  

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
