Schwab’s Investment Platforms, Solutions, and Strategy (SIPSS) organization brings together leaders artificial intelligence, digital assets, private markets, third-party products and platforms, separately managed accounts, digital advice, and corporate strategy and planning. The organization is focused on building a premier investment product suite that meets the evolving needs of Schwab’s clients and supporting Schwab’s long-term strategy.
Within SIPSS, Strategy & Innovation helps shape Schwab’s mid- to long-term direction, deploy investments to build new capabilities, and drive strategic programs across the firm. The team partners with senior leaders and enterprise organizations to translate priorities into strategies, investments, and programs that deliver meaningful client and business outcomes.
Reporting to the Managing Director, Strategic Program Management, a function within Strategy & Innovation, this Director will provide strategic and program support to the SIPSS Enterprise. This role will help SIPSS leadership with strategy development, enterprise planning, strategic analysis, and delivery support for select priority programs.
Strategy Development & Analysis
- Frame complex strategic questions, assess alternatives and tradeoffs, and develop clear recommendations for senior leaders
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses on priority business questions, growth opportunities, operating models, and strategic risks
- Lead or support development of organizational strategies, multi-year priorities, and strategic roadmaps aligned with Schwab’s enterprise direction
- Help evaluate market, industry, client, competitive, regulatory, and technology trends and translate relevant insights into implications for the organization
- Synthesize complex information into concise, decision-oriented narratives, presentations, and recommendations
- Translate enterprise priorities into clear organizational choices, strategic roadmaps, investment needs, and measures of success
- Evaluate strategic initiatives and investment choices based on enterprise alignment, client and business value, feasibility, risk, dependencies, and expected outcomes
- Develop business cases, scenario analyses, and integrated portfolio views that support prioritization and resource allocation decisions
Program & Project Support
- Provide targeted strategy and program leadership for select high-priority projects and programs across the organization, based on business need
- Help translate strategic objectives into clear program outcomes, workplans, milestones, decision points, and measures of success
- Partner with accountable business, product, technology, finance, risk, and other functional leaders to align delivery approaches and resolve critical dependencies
- Frame key decisions, surface tradeoffs and risks, and develop recommendations that help program leaders maintain momentum and achieve intended outcomes
- Support initial mobilization or critical phases of delivery while ensuring long-term ownership remains with the appropriate business or functional team
What you have
To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, strategic planning, strategic program leadership, corporate development, investment planning, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic plans, business cases, scenario analyses, portfolio recommendations, and executive-level recommendations within a large, complex organization
- Experience translating strategic priorities into executable plans and supporting complex, cross-functional projects or programs
- Strong structured problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to frame ambiguous questions, assess alternatives, and communicate this analysis clearly in slide format
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear executive-level recommendations and presentation
- Proven ability to influence across organizational boundaries and build alignment without direct authority, and strong relationships across stakeholder groups (e.g., Finance, Technology, L&C, etc.)
- Experience leading and developing teams or demonstrated readiness to assume people leadership responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in financial services, wealth management, brokerage, banking, or another regulated industry
- Prior experience in a management consulting firm or internal corporate strategy function
- Experience with enterprise planning, strategic investment portfolios, or large-scale transformation
- Knowledge of technology-enabled business models and the relationship between business strategy, capabilities, and investment
- Knowledge of complex investment products and solutions
- MBA or other relevant advanced degree
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
