This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

  • 7+ years of experience in production support, site reliability, or technical operations role supporting enterprise-grade applications in a financial services or highly regulated environment
  • Own the observability strategy and operational health posture for an assigned portfolio of BDSE applications and services.
  • Partner with application owners, architects, and development leads to define meaningful service-level indicators and objectives for availability, latency, performance, and other critical service outcomes.
  • Design, implement, and maintain actionable alerts, dashboards, triage views, and health checks using approved enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Evaluate alert quality, SLO accuracy, monitoring coverage, and signal usefulness; reduce noise and close monitoring gaps before they become production risks.
  • Lead onboarding and adoption of enterprise observability capabilities, including MORA/SysWatch, EKG, Splunk, Grafana, and application performance monitoring tools.
  • Provide senior-level technical leadership during production incidents, including rapid triage, impact assessment, diagnosis, stakeholder coordination, service restoration, and clear operational communication.
  • Drive medium- and high-priority incidents through root cause analysis, corrective action, post-incident documentation, and preventive-action tracking.
  • Use logs, metrics, traces, application behavior, and infrastructure signals to isolate complex issues across distributed application environments.
  • Improve recurring operational procedures, runbooks, escalation paths, and support-team readiness to reduce detection and recovery time.
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and partner with engineering teams to implement durable fixes rather than relying on repeated manual recovery.
  • Serve as a trusted SRE and observability advisor to Production Support, development, architecture, infrastructure, and enterprise platform teams.
  • Lead cross-team reliability initiatives that require coordination across organizational boundaries, competing priorities, and external dependencies.
  • Mentor team members in SLO management, observability, incident analysis, and operational-readiness practices; conduct demonstrations and knowledge-sharing sessions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering OR related degree and/or practical experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting business-critical applications in a Production Support, Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, or application-operations environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of SRE principles, including SLI/SLO design, monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis, operational readiness, and toil reduction.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise observability and monitoring technologies such as Splunk, Grafana, application performance monitoring, log analytics, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience diagnosing application and infrastructure issues using logs, metrics, dashboards, service dependencies, and system behavior.
  • Experience planning or supporting controlled production changes, vulnerability remediation, platform maintenance, or application modernization.
  • Proven ability to lead work independently, manage dependencies, influence partner teams, and drive complex technical efforts to measurable closure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including incident summaries, root cause analyses, technical documentation, and stakeholder updates.
  • Strong aptitude for leveraging AI and automation tools to improve operational efficiency. Practical familiarity with tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code is expected. Working knowledge of agentic workflows and custom instructions and prompt engineering, with the ability to establish team-level practices for effective AI-assisted solutions.
