The Director Azure Engineeringwill have the opportunity to help shape the next generation Cloud strategy and solutions for Charles Schwab & Co. The ideal candidate will have experience in large,multi-provider cloud service and design with proven Azure experience.  This is an area of strategic importance given the need to drive security, application platform availability, and regulatory needs as the market environment has driven massive growth.  This team is at a pivotal moment to both execute on identified opportunities and determine the broader strategy as we scale. This Director will help define the future including clear, fact-base analyses to inform key business decisions, work with a cross-functional team across product, technology, project services, and finance to identify areas of opportunity in our technology platforms, investment allocations, and team.  Finally, this role will deliver Operations and Engineering guidance for Schwab including strategic communication and organizational alignment across the broader organization. 

What you’re good at

The successful Director will help lead our Cloud solutionsfocused on Engineering, Strategy and Operations focused on the Azure platform as we scale to support Schwab’s rapid growth.  The scope ranges from strategic work on future opportunities, working with business partners to understand the broader picture around investment areas and platform performance, and ensuring the team is aligned both internally and externally.  This includes, but is not limited to:

• Establishing a deep understanding of the business, leveraging a data-driven approach to building insights about our applications and our business

• Seeing the big picture and bringing it to life through full-service delivery models integrated with Schwab’s major infrastructure products

• Steering large, cross-functional strategic projects and building consensus within the organization at all levels

• Facilitating intra- and cross-organizational communication about our technology vision, mission, objectives, and key initiatives

• Collaborating and partnering closely with key cross-functional partners to advance these objectives, including Application Teams, Hosting, Security, Network, Cloud, and Risk Management

• Experience supporting a highly regulated environment requiring attention to detail, a high degree of organization, and experience communicating to a variety of stakeholders.  

• Strong ability to effectively build relationships, establish trust, respect, competence, and confidence

• Proven leadership experience in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Provider (GCP).

• 8+ years in a strategic, cross-functional role with demonstrated increasing scope / impact

Thrives in a dynamic and evolving work environment.  Track record around aligning teams both internally and externally.  Energized by rallying a team around a common goal, as well as sharing our team’s story to stakeholders

• Agile leadership experience

Understanding of Agile infrastructure principles to build out a fully integrated service delivery model to address immediate program and customer objectives.  

• Experience managing a large solution and team

Detail orientation around managing team operations, from tracking common artifacts, leadership agendas, to planning offsites and other events to drive team focus and engagement.  A “no job too big or too small!” attitude

• Prior experience in technology leadership

          Understanding of key challenges that face product and technology teams
