Director, Research and Head of Corporate Credit Research
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director to perform fundamental credit analysis while leading a team of senior analysts responsible for monitoring a diverse portfolio of corporate and structured credit issuers.
The successful candidate will combine deep analytical expertise with strong leadership capabilities. This individual will be responsible for identifying emerging credit risks, developing independent credit opinions, communicating investment recommendations to portfolio managers and senior leadership, and fostering a high-performing research culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The role can be based in San Francisco, CA or Naples, FL.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Research and Analysis
- Conduct in-depth fundamental credit analysis of issuers across assigned sectors and industries.
- Develop independent credit opinions supported by detailed analysis of financial statements, industry trends, competitive dynamics, capital structure, governance, and macroeconomic conditions.
- Monitor ongoing issuer developments, including earnings releases, regulatory filings, rating agency actions, market developments, and material event disclosures.
- Engage with issuer management teams, rating agencies, sell-side research, and other market participants; synthesize inputs into an independent internal perspective.
- Identify potential credit deterioration, improvement, or investment opportunities and communicate findings proactively.
- Present investment recommendations to portfolio managers, investment working groups and credit committees. Serve as a trusted partner to portfolio managers by providing timely and actionable credit insights.
- Maintain current issuer reviews, surveillance reports, and internal credit ratings.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal credit methodologies and research guidelines.
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of experienced corporate credit analysts.
- Set priorities, allocate coverage responsibilities, and ensure timely completion of issuer reviews and surveillance activities.
- Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Provide guidance on analytical approaches, research standards, and investment recommendations.
- Conduct quality reviews of analyst work products and ensure consistency across the research platform.
- Mentor team members in both technical credit skills and professional development.
- Help recruit, onboard, and retain top analytical talent.
Strategic and Organizational Contributions
- Partner with senior leadership to enhance research processes, technology adoption, and operational efficiency.
- Drive initiatives involving data analytics, automation, AI-enabled research tools, and process improvement.
- Contribute to strategic discussions regarding market outlooks, sector risks, and research priorities.
- Represent the Credit Research team in cross-functional initiatives involving portfolio management, trading, risk management, and senior management.
What you have
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business, or a related field. CFA designation or progress toward CFA charter preferred.
- 10+ years of credit research, fixed income analysis, banking, rating agency, or related investment experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or managing investment professionals.
- Experience interacting with portfolio managers, investment committees, and executive leadership.
- Strong understanding of credit risk assessment, financial statement analysis, capital markets, and fixed income securities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to influence investment decisions through well-supported recommendations.
- Familiarity with credit surveillance systems and AI-enabled research workflows.
