The Retirement Operations Platform Strategy team is responsible for offer design, product management, platform operations, and innovation for Schwab’s retirement plan recordkeeping platforms. Our mandate is to design and enhance our retirement recordkeeping platform to enable efficient operational processes and extend our digital offering to participants, plan sponsors, and consultants. We do this by working with partners and technology delivery organizations to ensure key processes and interactions are designed and executed smoothly.
As a Sr. Manager, Solution Manager/Business Systems Analyst on the Retirement Operations Platform Strategy team, you are responsible for completing discovery and documenting business requirements for key business initiatives and collaborating with and leading cross-functional teams to clearly define the proposed solution. You will create strategic roadmaps as part of the discovery process, clearly define MVP and post-MVP features and solutions, and document business requirements and translate them into epics for scrum team delivery. You will ensure proposed solutions are feasible, valuable, and sustainable.
The role of the Sr. Manager, Solution Manager/Business Systems Analyst is a pivotal one that is expected to be aware of industry trends, stakeholder needs, and the fundamentals of software solutions. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to define products and solutions, and coordinating with architects and product management to align on the product and architectural vision. The Sr. Manager Solution Manager/Business Systems Analyst is able to take take something from a loosely defined problem or idea and convert it into an executable plan through analysis, collaboration, effective documentation, and communication. In addition, the Sr. Manager Solution Manager/Business Systems Analyst is able to create strategic roadmaps to show the planned evolution from MVP solution to a holistic process or experience. With a strong sense of curiosity and a high level of comfort operating in ambiguous and undefined initiatives, the Solution Manager/Business Systems Analyst ensures that the defined solution meets business needs, advances the goals of the organization, and is well understood by the implementation teams.
What you'll do:
- Accountable and responsible for completing discovery work for various initiatives, products, and experiences
- Lead and facilitate working sessions with business stakeholders, technology partners, and various SMEs to define the product and technical solution for the initiative
- Document discovery and business requirement artifacts, with input from a cross-functional group of partners and SMEs, to aid in the solution definition process.
- As part of discovery work, you are expected to review and analyze relevant client and market information.
- Lead discussions with business stakeholders and technology partners to get agreement on initial MVP and subsequent releases for the experience or initiative, resulting in a strategic roadmap.
- For the MVP solution, identify and sequence the high-level buckets of work (Epics) that need to be completed, including documenting acceptance criteria for each epic.
- Set OKRs for the overall initiative and for each rollout phase - the OKRs should align with and support the business OKRs
- Collaborate with business partners to identify impacted business teams and processes
- Collaborate with technology partners to identify impacted development teams
- The Solution Manager may support implementation of the initative/solution by ensuring the product/technical details are well understood.
- The Solution Manager is not expected to be an SME on all of the impacted systems/domains. The Solution Manager IS expected to be able to identify who the SMEs are and work with them to ensure the downstream impacts are understood and documented.
What you have

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years experience in the retirement industry with a detailed knowledge of business operations, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to translate needs and business imperatives into actionable product solutions; abile to take an undefined or loosely defined problem and take it through the discovery process, resulting in a clear and executable plan.
- Minimum of 5 years experience operating within the Scaled Agile Framework
- Able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the Product Development Life Cycle
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent collaboration skills. Strong ability to build relationships in cross-functional working groups.
- A strong sense of curiosity and high level of comfort operating in the unknown.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to gather information from multiple sources, synthesize it, uncover trends, draw out actionable conclusions, and document it in a way that is clearly understood by a cross-functional group of partners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills
- Adaptability when projects need to deviate from original plans or shift direction based on changing needs and priorities.
- Conflict resolution – Able to facilitate discussion of issues, different approaches, alternatives, and effectively resolve them promptly.
- Possess a strong grasp of software development and technology.
