The Managed Investing Operations (MIO) team performs a variety of functions supporting both sides of Schwab’s business, Advisor Services and Investor Services. We service Registered Investment Advisors, third-party and proprietary Money Managers across the country who are enrolled in Schwab’s Managed Account products and the Schwab Private Client offer. MIO partners with a number of internal business partners who share a common goal of serving our clients with the highest level of satisfaction.

In this role, you will be asked to switch gears throughout the day to assist with critical cut-off times, high-volume spikes, and business needs while maintaining accuracy, quality, and service expectations. Flexibility, attention to detail, critical thinking, and strong risk awareness are key aspects of this role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with client interaction, internal research, and timely resolution of operational issues. Functions can vary, but key Specialist responsibilities include:
- Enroll and un-enroll retail accounts into advised and managed products accurately and timely.
- Process account updates, money movement-related requests, Power of Attorney changes, and other managed account operational requests using applicable procedures, tools, and controls.
- Manage assigned work to meet service-level, production, and documentation expectations while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and risk awareness.
- Identify, communicate, and escalate risk situations, exceptions, or unclear procedure guidance appropriately.
- Provide exceptional client service while acting as an information resource and liaison between internal and external clients, business partners, and Money Managers.
- Build and sustain strong working relationships with key Schwab business partners through clear, professional, and timely communication.
- Evaluate different security types and how they trade, including equity-based securities, mutual funds, and fixed income products, and interpret trading instructions appropriately and timely.
- Manage multiple tasks effectively by balancing productivity, service quality, follow-through, and business partner impact.
- Support team consistency by sharing best practices, participating in team meetings or huddles, and contributing to a positive, accountable team environment.
- Look for opportunities to reduce errors, improve quality, streamline work, and support sustainable process improvement.
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated brokerage, back office, or operational experience, coupled with customer service skills. Cross-functional operational knowledge or processing experience in account opening, account maintenance, money movement, or managed accounts is strongly desired.
Required Qualifications:
- Superior attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership for quality, accuracy, risk awareness, and client impact.
- 1-2 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a strong background in operations and a demonstrated ability to manage complex business processes.
- Operational processing experience with the ability to follow procedures, use available resources, and apply sound judgment to routine and moderately complex scenarios.

- Excellent critical thinking, problem resolution, organizational, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks, requests, or projects while meeting defined or agreed-upon timeframes.
- Effective relationship management skills and a strong sense of teamwork, accountability, adaptability, and professionalism.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with peers, clients, and business partners.
- Demonstrated willingness to apply feedback, learn from errors or defects, and take ownership of professional development and role proficiency.
- Ability to serve as a reliable peer resource within areas of proficiency while knowing when to escalate based on risk, urgency, or complexity.
