Your Opportunity

Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.

The Senior Manager, Business Strategy will help lead strategic transformation and modernization efforts across Custody and Asset Services (CAS). This individual contributor will connect business strategy with execution, helping CAS understand current operations, define future-state needs, identify cross-functional dependencies, and prepare the organization for complex change.

The role will partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, risk partners, platform teams, technology partners, and enterprise transformation teams to ensure solutions reflect operational requirements, appropriately address risk and controls, and are positioned for successful implementation and adoption.

The initial focus will include supporting Broker-Dealer Modernization (BDM), a multi-year effort to modernize the core platforms, processes, and books-and-records capabilities that support Schwab’s broker-dealer operations. BDM is intended to replace or enhance aging technology, simplify and standardize how work is performed, strengthen operational resilience and controls, and create a more scalable foundation for future growth and change across CAS and Operational Services. Over time, the role will support additional strategic, regulatory, technology, product, and operational transformation priorities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead business strategy and transformation activities for complex, cross-functional initiatives from discovery through implementation and stabilization.
  • Serve as a central connection point among CAS departments, Transformation Directors, platform teams, risk partners, technology partners, and program leadership.
  • Lead current-state discovery, including mapping end-to-end processes and operational journeys.
  • Document how work is performed across people, processes, systems, technology, data, reports, reconciliations, controls, handoffs, and downstream dependencies.
  • Translate business processes and operational needs into clear requirements, decision points, and future-state considerations.
  • Facilitate working sessions with leaders and subject matter experts to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, resolve gaps, and develop practical recommendations.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions against operational requirements, control expectations, downstream impacts, and business readiness needs.
  • Identify cross-departmental dependencies, risks, duplicated efforts, and opportunities to reuse solutions or practices across CAS.
  • Support the design of future-state processes, operating models, controls, approval paths, evidence requirements, and business ownership.
  • Partner with business and delivery teams to develop testing strategies and scenarios based on end-to-end processes and operational risk.
  • Coordinate business readiness activities, including procedures, training, communications, cutover planning, implementation support, and transition to business-as-usual ownership.
  • Track key decisions, gaps, risks, dependencies, defects, and readiness concerns, providing clear recommendations and escalation when needed.
  • Develop executive-level presentations, analysis, roadmaps, dashboards, and other materials that communicate strategy, progress, risks, and decisions.
  • Contribute to consistent transformation practices across CAS, including journey mapping, structured problem solving, process improvement, prioritization, and change readiness.
  • Help build sustainable transformation capabilities that can be applied to future modernization, regulatory, product, technology, and operational initiatives.

What you have

  • Demonstrated experience supporting business strategy, transformation, modernization, process improvement, or complex program delivery.
  • Strong understanding of broker-dealer operations, operational processes, risk and controls, and regulated environments.
  • Experience leading or supporting complex initiatives involving multiple business areas, stakeholders, processes, systems, and dependencies.
  • Experience documenting current-state processes and translating business needs into requirements and future-state solutions.
  • Experience supporting testing, implementation, operational readiness, or organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and drive outcomes in an individual-contributor role.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and executive-presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear decisions, recommendations, and actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a changing environment.

Licensing: No securities licenses are required for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of brokerage operations experience, with a minimum of 5 years within Custody and Asset Services.
  • Experience with custody, clearing, securities processing, books and records, trade settlement, or related broker-dealer functions.
  • Experience supporting large-scale platform modernization, technology-enabled transformation, or complex conversions involving significant process and technology change.
  • Experience with journey mapping, process mapping, Lean, Six Sigma, root-cause analysis, or similar problem-solving methods.
  • Knowledge of business requirements, user acceptance testing, operational controls, implementation readiness, and post-launch stabilization.
  • Experience working across business, technology, risk, compliance, and enterprise transformation teams.

You Demonstrate These Behaviors
