As an International Wealth Consultant at Charles Schwab, you are responsible for providing high-touch service, on-going comprehensive guidance and advice to clients in the context of a dedicated relationship.The Wealth Consultant works across a wide spectrum of investment needs to help clients manage large and complex portfolios. Supporting our clients’ wealth management needs on behalf of our clients includes but is not limited to: financial planning, estate planning, investment management, retirement planning, education planning, active trading, tax, and estate needs.
International Wealth Consultants manage a large practice assignment of HNW international clients located across all international jurisdictions, while simultaneously developing new and existing relationships within your region through proactive and regular business development activities. Your success depends on your ability to develop and nurture deep relationships with practice clients in order to reduce attrition risk, encouraging asset consolidation, introducing to advisory services, and building a referral network.
This is a proactive-client-contact role where a high number of activities and unique contacts each day are critical to meeting the performance expectations and high practice penetration.
- Manage a practice of primarily Ultra-HNW clients; provide world-class service to clients with complex wealth management needs
- Retain existing clients, attract new clients, and generate growth as measured by AUM, Wealth Management solutions, and client promoter scores
- Partner with wealth specialists to offer solutions including advisory services, trust, and estate
- Take an in-depth consultative approach to analyze, assess, and find appropriate solutions
- Develop a customized financial strategy for prospects and existing clients
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding around how to assess suitability and the complex needs of International clients including utilizing complex entities like offshore corporations and trusts
What you are good at:
- Exhibits wealth management and investment products expertise including equities, fixed income, mutual fund and retirement plans; equity compensation plans, stock options and annuities
- Understands life event triggers for clients and leverages this ability to consolidate and retain assets; proven ability to probe clients for life event triggers and provide financial advice accordingly
- The ability to understand the unique needs of clients across multiple jurisdictions is critical and will require flexibility in terms of scheduling client meetings, outbound calling, and practice engagement time.
- Willingness to be in a high-contact and high-activity role where scheduling working hours based on the needs of your clients will be required.
- You will manage a large client practice in this role. Contacting these clients to understand their needs and contact preferences is key to being successful and ensuring you maintain the expected practice penetration levels. Additionally, you will work to grow your active practice through ongoing proactive business development, building trust, and earning a strong referral network.
What you have
Required Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Active & valid FINRA Series 7 license
- Active & valid FINRA Series 66 (63/65) license(s) (May be obtained under a condition of employment)
- 3+ years’ demonstrated experience introducing advisory products and services to international clients (SAN, SWA, MAS, etc…)
- Extensive knowledge of the intricacy of working with international clients, jurisdictional nuances, tax impacts, foreign regulatory impacts, product availability and the requirements of servicing non-US customers
- Bilingual Proficiency in English and Mandarin and/or Spanish is required
Preferred Competencies
- Wealth Management designation, e.g., Certified Wealth Strategist (CWS),CFA or CFP strongly preferred
- Professional designations/certifications (e.g., CFP, CFA, MBA, CHFC, CPWA) preferred
- Series 9/10 preferred
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
