The Senior Tax Specialist – Tax Compliance, Technology, and Special Projects provides assistance with a wide range of federal and state income tax compliance activities, including income tax return preparation, tax accounting support, and related compliance processes. The role will also support various tax planning initiatives, special projects, and process improvement efforts to help ensure Schwab meets all of its tax obligations. This is an individual contributor role.
The specific mix of responsibilities may vary over time based on team priorities and the discretion of the Director – Tax Provision and Technology. The selected individual may be asked to support any combination of the activities described below, including tax compliance, special projects, process improvement, and tax technology initiatives focused on improving efficiency, automation, data management, and reporting processes across the tax function.
What You'll Do
At the discretion of the Director – Tax Provision and Technology, the selected individual’s responsibilities will be drawn from the activities listed below:
Coordinate data requests for the preparation of the Company’s federal and state income tax returns.
Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns, state apportionment calculations, and supporting workpapers.
Work collaboratively across functions to identify and implement process improvements within the tax department.
Support special projects, which may include R&D tax credit project management, M&A due diligence and integration support, tax planning initiatives, and other strategic tax projects.
Prepare and review income tax estimated payments and extensions.
Respond to federal and state income tax notices and provide support during tax audits.
Assist with the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision.
Assist with tax technology and automation initiatives aimed at improving data collection, workflow management, analytics, and reporting processes. Over time, this may include supporting solutions utilizing Alteryx, Microsoft Power Query, AI-enabled tools, and other emerging technologies.
Assist Senior Managers and Directors with ad hoc projects and department initiatives.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
3-5 years of related tax experience.
Experience with federal and state income tax compliance.
Experience preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns and supporting calculations.
Excellent analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong Excel and tax software skills.
Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with large multistate corporate tax filings.
Corptax, OneSource Income Tax, or similar tax compliance software experience.
Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP/general ledger systems.
Experience supporting R&D tax credit studies, calculations, or project management activities.
Experience supporting tax aspects of acquisitions, integrations, or other special projects.
Process improvement, automation, or implementation experience.
Experience with Alteryx, Microsoft Power Query, Power Platform tools, or similar automation technologies.
Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and emerging tax technology solutions.
CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
