Managing Director, Securities Lending

Role Overview:

The Managing Director, Securities Lending leads the strategy, governance, and execution of Schwab’s securities lending franchise, with accountability for business performance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience. Operating at the intersection of markets, client experience, and enterprise risk, this leader partners across Treasury, Capital Markets, Brokerage and Advisor platforms, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Technology to strengthen core capabilities, scale new products and funding structures, and advance automation that supports sustainable franchise growth.

Key Outcomes:

  • Set and execute the strategic direction for the securities lending franchise, aligning growth, client experience, risk management, and operational resilience with firm priorities.
  • Oversee trading, operations, product capabilities, and external borrowing capacity supporting client and firm short-selling activity, monetizing client inventory, and meeting settlement, liquidity, and balance sheet objectives.
  • Deliver sustainable earnings growth through inventory monetization, expansion of fully paid lending, and development of dynamic pricing framework to support collateral optimization
  • Drive modernization through technology, data, and automation to improve scalability, controls, operational efficiency, and client experience.
  • Partner across Treasury, Capital Markets, Brokerage, Advisor platforms, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Technology to deliver an integrated, scalable franchise model and lead cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the firm with regulators, counterparties, vendors, and senior governance forums, providing clear updates on performance, market conditions, client impacts, and key risk indicators.

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in securities lending, prime brokerage, financing, capital markets, or a related discipline within financial services, with demonstrated success leading large-scale business, product, or operational strategies in a regulated environment.
  • Deep expertise in securities lending markets, short sale mechanics, inventory monetization, external borrow management, fully paid lending programs, and the market structure, funding, liquidity, balance sheet, and risk considerations that support them.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional execution across Trading, Treasury, Brokerage, Operations, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Technology, and to engage effectively with regulators, counterparties, vendors, and senior governance forums.
  • Track record of driving transformation through technology, data, process improvement, and automation, supported by strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant industry certifications preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building or scaling fully paid lending, evergreen stock loan, or other secured funding capabilities, along with a broad understanding of retail brokerage, advisor services, and institutional client needs related to short-selling, financing, and inventory monetization.
  • Demonstrated success modernizing platforms, automating workflows, strengthening data-driven decision-making, and leading through significant market structure, regulatory, or business model change in a complex financial institution.
