This role is a Senior Specialist Software Developer position within WAME (Wealth and Asset Solutions Technology). WAS Tech supporting the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management Solutions, integrating money management, research, and asset management platforms across mutual funds, ETFs, managed accounts, alternative investments, and insurance.

The team delivers and supports Advice applications used by Schwab advisors, representatives, and clients to support financial planning. This position provides technical leadership and software development expertise for the managed investing and advice technology platform, partnering closely with engineering teams and business stakeholders to deliver high quality solutions in a collaborative, fast paced environment.

Design, develop, test, deploy, support, and enhance cloud ready enterprise Advice applications for Schwab consultants and clients.
•Maintain applications to Schwab standards including making them compliant to Schwab’s security standards
•Provide production support for applications and systems, including Level 3 issue resolution as needed.
•Translate business and technical requirements into clear, well-documented technical designs.
•Collaborate with Agile teams to deliver scalable, high quality solutions.
•Partner with stakeholders across Schwab, spanning multiple technology and business organizations.
•Contribute to ground up modernization initiatives to improve user experience and advance modern technical architectures.
•Lead projects and mentor junior engineers, fostering technical growth and accountability.
•Design and assess cutting-edge proof-of-concept solutions for integration into the organization's enterprise technology infrastructure.
•Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to research and assess emerging technologies in the FinTech space.
•Drive CI/CD practices using tools such as Jenkins and Bamboo, aligned with DevOps principles.
•Champion effective collaboration with technology and business partners.
•Identify, evaluate, and promote adoption of emerging and open source technologies.
•Continuously improve development processes to increase efficiency, quality, and reliability.
•Ensure software is built, delivered, and maintained to the highest quality standards.
•Serve as a leader in Agile execution, promoting collaboration, prioritization, transparency, and team accountability

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

​•Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
•5+ years of experience designing and developing enterprise applications using Java or other object oriented languages.
•Strong experience building microservices, RESTful APIs, and Spring Boot–based applications.
•Proven experience designing and developing event driven and asynchronous systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
•Solid background in data modeling and database design across SQL and NoSQL platforms (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB).
•Hands on experience with cloud based application development and modern architectural patterns, including 12 factor applications.
•Experience supporting production systems, including troubleshooting and Level 3 issue resolution.
•Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (e.g., GitHub, Bamboo, Jenkins).
•Experience identifying and mitigating application security vulnerabilities using industry standard tools.
•Strong understanding of software design principles, testing strategies, and quality engineering practices.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently, think critically, and deliver solutions in fast paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience developing Java applications in the financial services or fintech domain.
•Exposure to ETL workflows using Java Spring Batch framework
•Familiarity with BDD/TDD development practices.
•Experience mentoring junior engineers or providing technical leadership within a team.
•Experience partnering with architects on system design and modernization initiatives.
•Cloud platform experience or certifications (e.g., Google Cloud, Pivotal Cloud Foundry).
•Experience modernizing or migrating legacy applications to cloud ready architectures.
•Comfort presenting technical concepts to senior or executive stakeholders.
