Senior Specialist, Securities Lending Funding
Your Opportunity
Charles Schwab’s Securities Lending business is a vibrant and important business that generates Net Interest Income for the company and provides valuable investment services for Schwab clients. The goal is to grow this business without dramatically increasing cost or risk and constantly improve and enhance our technology and client experiences for our client facing products (Fully Paid and Short Sales). This can be achieved through an increased focus on business retention and development activities to enhance market perception of the Schwab brand, strategic exploration of synergistic opportunities that exist inside and outside of Schwab, and a careful focus on cost containment and/or reduction, creating scale and efficiencies and outstanding products and service for our clients.
The Securities Lending Senior Specialist reports to the Senior Manager of Business Analytics, and will support initiatives within each business function (Short Sale, Fully Paid, Trading and Funding). Work will include helping to build analytical tools to develop metrics surrounding the Securities Lending business, for both internal and external stakeholders. This will require planning, coordination and execution, meeting key milestones, anticipation of issues, managing dependencies and the resolution of challenges resulting from multiple work streams. Occasional travel will be required for firm industry meetings and team offsites. Securities Lending seeks an action-oriented, strategic thinker who can prioritize, communicate and collaborate to build relationships across departmental lines, within the industry, especially to enhance systems, relationships and product awareness within the firm and amongst the external firms with which we transact.
What you’ll do:
- In Partnership with the Senior Manager of SL Business Analytics, the Senior Specialist will:
- Comply with all rules and Regulations applicable to managing the Securities Lending Business including REG SHO, SEC15c3-3, FINRA 4330
- Serve Schwab clients via our “Through Client’s Eye” lens for Securities Lending Funding, Fully Paid and Short Sale Products,
- Stay abreast of regulations, industry trends and incorporate new systems, processes, policies and procedures as market evolves.
- Meet with our vendors to hold them accountable, and seek out new ones when necessary.
- Apply analytics and discipline to our funding desk to measure results and reduce risk and automate processes.
- Product Enhancement
- Ensure that Schwab’s Securities Lending capabilities are well understood within Schwab and externally in the industry.
- Partner closely with Schwab’s internal team’s such as: Schwab.com, Technology, Client Experience, Active Trader, High Net Worth, Treasury, Finance, Credit Risk, and Advisor Services
- Meet with Securities Lending Teams (Trading, Fully Paid and Short Sales) regularly to stay synchronized on upcoming changes for which metrics will be needed.
- Meet with Securities Lending Trading team and management to stay abreast of and provide reports/metrics regarding new technology enhancements.
- Analyze business environment and create reports that outline opportunities and problems.
- Identify requirements, document and communicate them to business and technology.
- Meet regularly with our partner technology teams to stay up-to-speed on upcoming changes, communicate requirements, and participate in user testing/validation efforts.
- Industry Event Participation
- Occasionally attend and represent Schwab at industry conferences (i.e. IMPACT, IMN, RMA, Finadium, etc.)
- Participate in and assist in hosting Schwab’s own industry events such as roundtables and symposiums.
- Attend other non-securities lending specific conferences to promote the Securities Lending Business (i.e. IMPACT)
- Ensure compliance with all related policies and procedures.
- Anticipate and appropriately plan for future resource needs.
What you have
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced financial degree preferred.
- At least two years of financial industry work experience.
- Ability to work in and create order within ambiguous environments.
- Demonstrated project management experience and demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and to interact effectively with senior management and Security Lending Counterparties.
- Results driven and action oriented, able to motivate teams and direct resources.
- Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced skills in Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, CoPilot, Tableau.
- Understanding of computing and database languages with expertise in SQL, Tableau and Alteryx strongly desired; Python and Farnam encouraged.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated experience.
- High attention to detail.
