The Senior Portfolio Manager, Taxable Fixed Income ETFs and SMAs will serve as a key member and people leader within the taxable fixed income investment team. This role combines direct portfolio management responsibility with leadership of investment professionals responsible for managing separately managed accounts, open-end mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The role is located in Lone Tree, Colorado. The successful candidate will oversee portfolio construction, strategy implementation, risk management, performance attribution, and investment process enhancement while fostering a high-performing team culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
This individual will possess deep expertise across fixed income markets, including corporate bonds, securitized products, municipal bonds, and interest rate markets. They will leverage investment judgment, analytical rigor, and technology-enabled portfolio management capabilities to drive investment outcomes while developing talent and strengthening organizational capabilities.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of portfolio management professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Establish clear performance expectations and support employee growth through coaching, mentoring, career development, and ongoing feedback.
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning, succession planning, recruiting, and talent management initiatives.
- Promote an inclusive and highly engaged team environment that encourages the sharing of ideas and investment perspectives.
Portfolio Management & Investment Leadership
- Oversee and contribute to all aspects of the fixed income investment process, including market analysis, portfolio construction, strategy implementation, risk management, performance attribution, and portfolio monitoring.
- Direct portfolio positioning decisions across SMA and ETF strategies, ensuring alignment with investment objectives, risk parameters, and client outcomes.
- Lead the development and maintenance of investment rules, portfolio models, management styles, and strategy frameworks to drive consistent implementation across portfolios.
- Apply market expertise and investment judgment to portfolio construction, account surveillance, security selection, and strategic recommendations.
- Monitor market conditions, portfolio exposures, credit quality, liquidity, yield curve positioning, and other key risk factors affecting portfolio performance.
Technology & Process Innovation
- Champion the use of portfolio management technologies and data-driven investment processes to improve scalability, account customization, risk oversight, workflow efficiency, and investment outcomes.
- Partner with technology, operations, and business teams to enhance investment platforms, workflows, attribution capabilities, and portfolio implementation processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen portfolio management effectiveness while supporting growth across investment strategies and client accounts.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate investment philosophy, portfolio positioning, performance drivers, and market developments to clients, consultants, relationship managers, and senior leadership.
- Generate and interpret performance attribution analyses to evaluate investment results, identify opportunities for improvement, and support portfolio decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with trading, credit research, operations, compliance, product management, and technology teams to achieve investment and business objectives.
What you have
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CFA designation required.
- 10+ years of experience in fixed income portfolio management, asset management, or a related investment role.
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or managing investment professionals and teams.
- Deep understanding of fixed income markets, portfolio construction, risk management, performance attribution, and investment decision-making.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience evaluating portfolio risk and performance across multiple strategies and account structures.
- Advanced knowledge of Bloomberg and fixed income analytical tools.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex investment concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to make sound investment decisions and exercise strong judgment in a fast-paced and evolving market environment.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-management skills with the ability to influence outcomes across investment and business functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing taxable fixed income SMA and ETF strategies.
- Experience with InvestorTools Perform, Bloomberg, Aladdin, or similar investment management platforms.
- Hands-on experience with model-based portfolio construction, investment rules, compliance frameworks, strategy scoring, management styles, workflow automation, and technology-enabled order generation.
- Experience leading investment process enhancements, platform migrations, or portfolio management technology initiatives.
- Demonstrated success balancing people leadership responsibilities with direct portfolio management accountability.
