Our Opportunity: 

Assist the Director of Corporate Tax, Audits and Indirect Tax and Senior Tax Manager in managing significant components of the Company's federal and state Research & Development (R&D) tax credit program. This role coordinates key workstreams within the annual R&D tax credit study and collaborates with business partners, external advisors, and tax leadership to identify, document, and sustain tax credit opportunities while ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.

The position also supports federal and state income tax compliance, tax planning initiatives, tax technology improvements, and audit defense activities. The selected individual may be asked to manage any combination of the activities described below.

What you’ll do:

Research & Development Tax Credit Study

  • Serve as an internal project lead for assigned workstreams within the annual federal and state R&D tax credit studies.
  • Manage assigned components of the R&D credit process, including planning, timeline management, stakeholder engagement, documentation collection, and review of key deliverables.
  • Coordinate with external consultants responsible for preparing R&D credit studies, review advisor deliverables for completeness and technical support, and help ensure work is completed timely, accurately, and within budget.
  • Partner with technology, product, operations, digital assets, cybersecurity, and other business teams to identify qualified research activities and capture supporting documentation.
  • Identify, evaluate and help implement process improvements to enhance credit sustainability, documentation quality, and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual R&D credit forecasting and estimated tax impacts.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments affecting Sections 41 and 174 and state R&D credit programs.
  • Support examination defense and audit responses related to R&D credit claims.

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax compliance workpapers supporting corporate tax returns.
  • Manage assigned portions of the federal and state income tax return process, including credits, elections, apportionment, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with state tax credit compliance, applications, certifications, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Support quarterly estimated tax calculations and tax account reconciliations.

Audits & Tax Controversy

  • Manage federal, state, and local tax examinations and information document requests.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and internal stakeholders to develop audit strategies and technical support for tax positions.
  • Research tax law, regulations, and case law to support filing positions and audit defense.
  • Maintain awareness of changing tax legislation and evaluate potential impacts to the company.

Strategic Projects

  • Lead or support R&D initiatives focused on tax process improvement, automation, data governance, and AI-enabled tax efficiencies.
  • Develop reporting and analytics for tax leadership to support decision making and risk management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce compliance costs and improve scalability of tax operations.

What you have


To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firm and/or corporate tax department.
  • Knowledge of IRC Section 41, Section 174 capitalization requirements, and state R&D credit regimes.
  • Experience coordinating or managing significant components of federal and state R&D tax credit studies.
  • Experience reviewing R&D tax credit calculations, supporting documentation, and technical memoranda prepared by outside advisors.
  • Experience establishing project plans, managing milestones, identifying risks, and driving accountability across stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to independently execute complex tax workstreams, exercise sound judgment, identify risks, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns and supporting calculations.
  • Strong Excel and tax software skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-sufficient, a team player, and work well in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large multistate corporate tax filings.
  • Corptax, OneSource Income Tax, or similar tax compliance software experience.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP/general ledger systems.
  • Process improvement, automation, or implementation experience.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools to improve tax research, documentation, compliance, and project management processes.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
