Our Opportunity:
Assist the Senior Manager of Corporate Tax in managing significant components of the Company's federal and state income tax compliance function. This role helps coordinate the preparation, review, and execution of federal and state income tax compliance processes, supports tax planning initiatives, drives process improvements, and helps ensure timely and accurate tax filings.
The position plays a significant role in coordinating tax compliance activities across multiple legal entities, managing assigned project timelines and priorities, reviewing technical work product, and providing guidance to tax professionals. The selected individual may be asked to manage any combination of the activities described below.
What you’ll do:
Federal & State Income Tax Compliance
- Manage assigned portions of the federal consolidated income tax return process, including planning, preparation, reviewing supporting schedules, elections, tax attributes, and compliance workpapers.
- Oversee assigned components of the preparation and review of state and local income and franchise tax returns, including apportionment calculations, state modifications, credits, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate and review charitable foundation tax provisions and related federal and state tax filings in conjunction with outside service providers, including tracking deliverables, reviewing supporting documentation, and escalating technical issues as needed.
- Coordinate tax return deliverables, filing calendars, and compliance deadlines to ensure timely and accurate filing obligations.
- Support quarterly estimated tax calculations, extension filings, and tax account reconciliations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and evaluate the impact on the Company's federal and state tax compliance obligations.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and service providers to support compliance and reporting requirements.
Project & Program Management
- Serve as project lead for assigned tax compliance initiatives, process improvement projects, and strategic tax department priorities, including organizing workstreams, tracking milestones, identifying risks, and communicating status.
- Develop project plans, establish milestones, monitor progress, identify risks, and communicate status to tax leadership and key stakeholders.
- Drive standardization, documentation, and continuous improvement of tax processes, controls, and workflows.
- Support implementation and optimization of tax technology solutions, automation initiatives, and reporting enhancements.
- Develop metrics and reporting tools that improve transparency, accountability, scalability, and risk management within the tax function.
Technical Review & Tax Leadership
- Perform detailed review of complex federal and state tax workpapers, calculations, tax returns, and supporting documentation to evaluate technical accuracy, consistency, documentation quality, and readiness for internal and external review.
- Identify technical tax issues early in the compliance process, assess potential filing or reporting implications, and determine when escalation, technical research, or external advisor consultation is necessary.
- Research tax law, regulations, administrative guidance, and judicial developments to support filing positions and compliance requirements.
- Serve as a technical resource to tax professionals and business partners on federal and state tax matters.
Support federal and state tax examinations, information requests, and audit defense activities by coordinating responses, organizing technical support, reviewing documentation, and working with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
What you have

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
- 6+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firm and/or corporate tax department.
- Strong knowledge of federal corporate income tax compliance and multistate income and franchise tax compliance.
- Experience preparing and reviewing federal and state corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapers.
- Experience managing complex tax workstreams or projects involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, technical issues, and deadlines.
- Proven ability to review technical tax matters, identify risks, and drive resolution of complex compliance issues.
- Experience identifying, leading, or supporting process improvement initiatives and implementing standardized procedures, controls, and documentation practices.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, milestone tracking, risk management, and stakeholder communications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel and tax software skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be self-sufficient, a team player, and work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large corporate consolidated tax return filings and complex multistate tax environments.
- Experience reviewing apportionment methodologies, state modifications, tax credits, and tax attribute calculations.
- Corptax, OneSource Income Tax, or similar tax compliance software experience.
- Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP/general ledger systems.
- Experience leading tax technology, automation, or process transformation initiatives.
- Experience leveraging data analytics and AI-enabled tools to improve tax compliance, documentation, project management, and operational efficiency.
- CPA certification or progress toward obtaining CPA certification.
