Schwab Asset Management (SAM), the asset management arm of Charles Schwab Corporation, has more than $1 Trillion in assets under management (AUM) and is one of the nation’s largest retail money managers. SAM provides a wide variety of products ranging from money market funds, index mutual funds, actively managed mutual funds, exchange traded funds, multi-asset SMAs, and multi-asset fund-of-funds. As a provider of core investment products, SAM is both an important enabler in fulfilling Schwab’s mission of helping everyone be financially fit and critical engine in the company’s profitability and growth.

The Associate Portfolio Manager role contributes to the management of Schwab Multi-asset Mutual Funds within the Multi-Asset Strategies team on a day-to-day basis. This includes but is not limited to executing Schwab’s mutual funds’ investment process, monitoring underlying investments, contributing to decisions making for funds’ allocation and development of model portfolios. In addition, the associate portfolio manager is expected to maintain and update the performance attribution process, monitor and update analytical tools for the team. The candidate is expected to have a strong desire to learn about multi-asset portfolios and understanding of financial markets. This position contributes to a team-oriented investment process, and the individual in the role is expected to be a team player and contribute toward the success of the team and products.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to the management of the Schwab Multi-asset mutual funds on a daily basis
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a variety of quantitative tools
  • Ensure portfolios are within investment guidelines and constraints
  • Participate in research on asset allocation and investment vehicles
  • Recommend enhancements to investment process
  • Evaluate fund performance and provide attribution commentary
  • Monitor investment vehicle to ensure suitability
  • Contribute to the oversight of model annual reviews, performance monitoring
  • Collaborate with other teams on projects

What you have


Required qualifications:

  • Proficiency and experience with Excel and statistical/programming languages, such as Python, R, VBA, GitHub and SQL
  • 3-5 years of investment experience, ideally in a multi-asset or multi-manager role
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiar with risk analysis and risk budgeting process
  • Familiar with financial packages like Bloomberg, Morningstar
  • Passion for investing, research and intellectual curiosity in a team-based investment process
  • The candidate should have a high level of integrity, be a self-starter, well-organized
  • Good market knowledge on equities, fixed income and other asset classes
  • Attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the 401(k) marketplace
  • CFA or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
