Managing Director, Trading Platforms
The Managing Director, Trading Platforms oversees the strategy and continuous improvement of our Trader Platforms, including thinkorswim (TOS), to advance innovation, client engagement, and trading activity. The Managing Director and their team will help shape the firm’s Trader strategy and further enhance the trader experience.
Key Outcomes:
- Define and execute a long-term strategy for the trading platforms
- Increase trader segment growth and engagement through a differentiated product strategy, experience enhancements, and scaled educational content
- Drive acquisition, conversion, and active usage of TOS and the Trader API through clear value propositions, onboarding improvements, and channel partnership
- Lead investment planning and prioritization for the trader platform portfolio, aligning funding and capacity to expected business outcomes
- Advance scalable client enablement and self-service through TOS supporting tools (Learning Center, Dev Portal, Admin, and Intra)
- Align with Schwab digital distribution and advice/service channels to strengthen the end-to-end trader journey and enable cross-sell opportunities
- Lead executive governance with Trading & Education leaders, including roadmap decisions, trade-offs, and delivery accountability
- Partner with senior leaders across service, sales, marketing, operations, and client experience to ensure go-to-market readiness and sustained adoption
- Partner with Marketing to define segmentation, positioning, and campaign strategy, and to measure performance against acquisition and engagement goals
- Establish operating rhythms and performance management, including OKRs/KPIs, quarterly planning, financial reviews, and executive reporting
- Partner with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Cybersecurity, and Operational Risk to ensure platform capabilities, communications, and releases meet regulatory and control requirements
- Own trader platform business performance outcomes, including growth targets, client economics, and ROI for major initiatives
- Develop strategic partnerships to enhance trader capabilities, including market data, news, and third-party integrations, as appropriate
- Monitor market trends and competitive offerings to identify opportunities, risks, and differentiation priorities for the trader platform
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing product organization, including hiring, succession planning, and capability development
What you have
Required Experience:
- 10+ years in Product Development, Platform Management & Strategy at a firm of similar size and complexity
- Deep subject matter expertise in markets and trading with a focus on the retail client segment
- Proven track record leading experienced, high performing, and passionate teams through change
- Proven team leadership, including hiring, development, and coaching
- Demonstrated ability to establish strong collaborative relationships across different business units
- Experience leading growth initiatives for large client segments
- Experience shaping strategy and leading large-scale programs across multiple enterprises with competing priorities
- Strong working knowledge of operations, technology, and legal/compliance considerations, with the ability to make informed trade-offs
- Bachelor’s degree required
Preferred Experience:
- Experience using Atlassian product management software suite (e.g. JIRA, Confluence)
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to take initiatives from planning through execution
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to build trust, align stakeholders, and navigate complex relationships
- Alignment with Schwab’s mission and demonstrated credibility as a trusted partner across teams
- Demonstrated sound judgment and timely decision-making, informed by data and business input, with consideration for risk, expense, and client impact
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- FINRA licenses are preferred.
