Corporate Affairs is comprised of 80+ talented communicators, community affairs professionals, and digital tacticians who grow Schwab’s story and strategy for our clients, public, and stakeholders, support our communities through giving, volunteerism and community sponsorships, drive the company’s internal and external channels, and deploy communications that support our strategic objectives and celebrate our employee experience.

Our Corporate Affairs Operations Team is responsible for delivering the operational infrastructure and support that enable our professionals to do their jobs effectively every day. The Director of Organizational Development & Planning is responsible for strengthening the operational effectiveness and professional growth of the Corporate Affairs function.

The role requires a thoughtful coalition builder who collaborates across the corporate affairs function at large, HR partners, and other functional teams, while also addressing the unique needs of communicators and community affairs professionals. The director ensures that the team operates with strategic alignment, measurable impact, and connection across the function.

In This Role You Will

  • Employ Strategic Leadership and Measurement: Partner with the Director of Operations to embed a standard strategic planning process, track performance against functional objectives, agency ROI, functional budget management, and own the application of the Corporate Affairs Dashboard. Continue to grow the adoption and effectiveness of a functional calendar and editorial meeting cadence to ensure all Corporate Affairs activities align with organizational goals of increased collaboration and visibility.

  • Lead Capability Building and Development: Oversee efforts to map the career growth and capabilities of communicators and community affairs professionals, identifying strengths and opportunities for growth. Ensure visibility and accessibility to existing tools, platforms, and learning resources that enhance functional capabilities. Collaborate with HR and external vendors to design and implement development programs to close identified skills needs. Curate resources, outside speakers, and compelling content for our virtual and in-person meetings, including our All Hands meetings, Editorial Calls, and Pro Day sessions.

  • Develop Operational Excellence and Best Practices: Regularly work with peers across the function and fellow Operations Team members to evaluate tools, platforms, and processes to enhance efficiency and support the team’s evolving needs. Collaborate with Corporate Affairs professionals to develop standard approaches, document best practices, and drive their adoption across the function.

Required Qualifications

  • Passion for and proven experience in organizational development, planning, or related roles, preferably within Corporate Affairs or similar functions.

  • Exceptional ability to build and sustain cross-functional relationships, with strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of communications and community affairs practice, including tools, platforms, and strategies.

  • Tactical change management skills and demonstrated success in strategic planning, ROI measurement, and resource optimization.

  • Experience working with internal partners and external vendors to design and implement programs.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strategic, results-oriented focus.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and evaluate strategic options and make sound decisions. 

  • A highly collaborative working style effectively establishing trust and respect with high detail orientation.

  • BS/BA degree required.

  • Experience in competency and career mapping, succession planning, instructional design, curriculum design and management, and adult education strategy.

  • Travel may be required.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
