Charles Schwab's Retail Strategy and Analytics is the internal management consulting group for the Retail business, which is the primary business unit at Schwab and has 13,000 employees worldwide. Retail Strategy and Analytics serves as a trusted adviser to the head of the Retail business and the Retail Leadership Team and works on strategic and operational issues at the top of senior management's agenda. Our team is a premier pipeline for diverse and high potential talent; alumni include senior leaders across the entire firm in the industry at large.
Retail Strategy and Analytics serves three primary functions: 1) Strategy: facilitating strategic decision making for the Retail business, 2) Management Reporting: supporting the operational and business planning needs of the Retail Leadership Team, and 3) Analytics: equipping leadership with insights and analytics to monitor the Retail business and drive key decisions.
This opening is for the Strategy function. Typical projects include growth strategy, market assessment and entry evaluation, M&A and divestiture strategy, and operating model / organizational design.
We are seeking a Director who will help shape plans for new initiatives and manage high priority strategy projects. As a Director, you will have the opportunity to:
- Influence key strategic decisions that shape the direction of the company
- Define impactful business strategies for Schwab’s Retail business
- Plan and manage the execution of work streams for large, complex projects, as well as take full ownership for smaller projects
- Mentor and coach junior team members, and at times manage entire teams on project work
- Work alongside dynamic, motivated, and intellectually curious colleagues from top consulting firms and leading undergraduate and MBA programs
- Build relationships with a wide range of business partners, develop a deep understanding of the Retail business, and uniquely position yourself as an invaluable subject matter authority
- Regularly present strategic insights and recommendations to the firm's senior leadership

What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required:
- Minimum 7 years of full-time work experience, including 5 years of work experience (or 4 years with an MBA) in strategy, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm or strategy group at a large organization
- Comfort with managing project(s) with different team members each time, as they are assigned on a project by project basis (same as in a consulting firm)
- Experience mentoring / coaching a team
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to develop concise and effective communications tailored to specific audiences
- Demonstrated ability developing relevant business stories to communicate business strategies and recommendations
- Demonstrated ability developing materials and effectively presenting to executive audiences
- Experience creating and maintaining perspective on strategic implications of key developments in the external environment, industry trends, and competitor actions
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to generate insights through both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Strong financial modeling skills and knowledge of financial/valuation concepts
- Demonstrated interpersonal and influencing skills, especially in cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail, sense of urgency, and proactiveness
- Comfort dealing with ambiguity in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
- Expert user of PowerPoint and Excel
- Personally and professionally aligned with Schwab’s vision and values, and a deep interest in financial services
