Role description:

Provide strategic leadership, engineering expertise, and operational oversight for the enterprise Business Intelligence platform ecosystem, including Power BI, Tableau Server, Tableau Cloud, SAP BusinessObjects, and Alteryx. Responsible for platform architecture, governance, automation, security, reliability, and modernization initiatives that enable enterprise reporting, analytics, self-service BI, and data-driven decision-making. Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing BI solutions while driving platform innovation, operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement across the analytics landscape.

Enterprise BI Platform Engineering & Technical Expertise

• Provide technical leadership, engineering expertise, and strategic direction across the enterprise Business Intelligence platform ecosystem, including Power BI, Tableau Server (On-Premises), Tableau Cloud, SAP BusinessObjects, and Alteryx.
• Design, engineer, enhance, and support platform capabilities that enable enterprise reporting, analytics, self-service BI, dashboarding, and data-driven decision-making.
• Lead platform modernization initiatives, feature enablement, scalability improvements, and architectural enhancements to meet evolving business requirements.
• Develop and maintain standardized platform architectures, governance frameworks, and best practices that improve reliability, security, usability, and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate emerging BI, analytics, AI, and data visualization technologies and recommend capabilities that deliver business value and operational improvements.

BI Platform Administration & Ecosystem Enablement

• Establish and support enterprise BI platform services, including workspace management, server/site administration, content promotion, report distribution, scheduling, subscriptions, semantic models, data connectivity, and analytics workflows.
• Partner with business units, product owners, architects, data engineering teams, and analytics stakeholders to enable scalable and secure BI solutions.
• Support onboarding, adoption, training, and enablement of enterprise reporting and analytics capabilities across business and technology organizations.
• Drive platform governance practices covering access management, content lifecycle management, workspace standards, licensing optimization, and platform best practices.

Automation, Engineering Excellence & Platform Innovation

• Design and implement automation solutions to streamline platform administration, monitoring, provisioning, deployments, access management, and operational processes.
• Leverage APIs, scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code, and automation frameworks to improve platform efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Develop reusable frameworks, templates, standards, and engineering patterns that accelerate delivery while ensuring consistency and compliance.
• Support release management, configuration management, and automated deployment practices for BI platform services.
• Continuously identify opportunities for platform optimization through automation, standardization, and technology innovation.

Platform Operations, Reliability & Support

• Ensure stability, availability, performance, and operational readiness across Power BI, Tableau, BusinessObjects, and Alteryx environments.
• Lead platform monitoring, incident management, root cause analysis, problem management, and service restoration activities.
• Establish proactive monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, performance tuning, and operational reporting processes.
• Coordinate platform upgrades, migrations, patching, infrastructure lifecycle management, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
• Drive resiliency planning, disaster recovery testing, business continuity preparedness, and operational excellence initiatives across all BI platforms.

Governance, Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain governance frameworks supporting role-based access controls, platform security, auditability, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with cybersecurity, infrastructure, risk, and compliance teams to address vulnerabilities, security enhancements, and policy adherence.
• Manage audit support activities, including evidence collection, access reviews, configuration management documentation, and control validation.
• Ensure BI platforms align with enterprise standards for data protection, retention, privacy, and access governance.
• Drive adoption of least-privilege access models, platform security best practices, and risk mitigation strategies.

Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Provide senior technical leadership and mentorship across platform engineering, support, administration, and analytics teams.
• Influence platform strategy, architectural decisions, technology roadmaps, and engineering standards across the BI ecosystem.
• Translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for executives, business stakeholders, and technology leaders.
• Partner with Data Engineering, Cloud Services, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Operations, and Business teams to deliver enterprise analytics capabilities.
• Lead high-impact platform initiatives, modernization programs, migrations, governance projects, and continuous improvement efforts that enhance enterprise reporting and analytics services.

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
• 12+ years of IT experience with a strong focus on Enterprise BI Platform Administration, Engineering, and Operations, including a minimum of 2+ years supporting and managing cloud-based BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau Cloud, or other SaaS analytics platforms.
• Hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise BI ecosystems, including Power BI, Tableau Server (On-Premises), Tableau Cloud, SAP BusinessObjects, and Alteryx.
• Proven experience partnering with Product Owners, business stakeholders, architects, and technology teams to define roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, participate in PI Planning, and align platform capabilities with business objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor Junior and Vendor Contractors, platform administration, and support teams, driving technical excellence and operational discipline.
• Strong experience managing the full platform lifecycle, including platform provisioning, configuration management, upgrades, migrations, patching, monitoring, capacity planning, scalability management, and decommissioning.
• Experience administering and supporting enterprise server environments, gateways, repositories, cloud services, and platform infrastructure in high-availability, mission-critical environments.
• Advanced scripting and automation skills using Python, PowerShell, REST APIs, or similar technologies to automate platform administration, monitoring, deployments, and operational tasks.
• Experience implementing platform governance, security controls, role-based access management, audit compliance requirements, and vulnerability remediation processes.
• Experience with Agile delivery methodologies, including PI Planning, backlog management, dependency tracking, capacity planning, and prioritization of platform engineering initiatives.
• Experience with enterprise ticketing and service management tools such as Jira, Remedy, ServiceNow, or equivalent platforms.
• Strong experience supporting production operations in highly available environments with responsibility for incident management, root cause analysis, change management, and service restoration.
• Demonstrated experience with scalability planning and performance management, including monitoring and optimizing:
• Platform availability and uptime
• CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization
• Capacity consumption and growth forecasting
• Platform health, resiliency, and disaster recovery readiness
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and operational impacts to engineers, business partners, product owners, executives, and leadership teams.
• Proven ability to proactively communicate planned maintenance activities, outages, risks, dependencies, and business impacts with appropriate lead time, while providing timely updates, post-implementation status, and issue resolution communications.
• Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on platform reliability, operational efficiency, automation, scalability, governance, and user experience.
