DAFgiving360™ is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to increasing charitable giving in the United States. Since 1999, donors have recommended over $55 billion in grants to more than 300,000 charities. Through donor-advised funds and philanthropic tools, we help individuals and families integrate charitable planning into their financial lives and make a meaningful difference.

This position will be an employee of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and will be subject to its policies and procedures but will report to and be accountable to DAFgiving360 for day-to-day activities.

Our Opportunity

The Sr. Manager, Data Governance (PL) will lead the strategy, operating model, and continued maturation of DAFgiving360’s Data Governance program. This role is responsible for ensuring DAFgiving360 data is understood, accurate, trusted, appropriately governed, and positioned as an organizational asset that enables business growth, operational effectiveness, risk mitigation, and differentiated donor experiences.

This role will also serve as a leader for the Data Governance team, providing direct oversight, coaching, prioritization, and performance support for team members responsible for data quality, metadata management, data dictionary development, governance operations, data requirements, and initiative support. The leader will help translate organizational strategy into clear team priorities, develop talent, and build sustainable practices that can scale across DAFgiving360.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the governance strategy, roadmap, operating model, policies, standards, decision rights, and maturity planning needed to support DAFgiving360’s long-term data strategy.
  • Chair the Data Governance Steering Committee by preparing materials, facilitating decisions, aligning priorities to business initiatives, and reporting on progress, risks, and program effectiveness.
  • Mature core governance capabilities, including metadata, data dictionary, data flows, change management, profiling, quality rules, scorecards, and issue management.
  • Build and operationalize a business data quality program with clear ownership, stewardship, issue triage, root cause analysis, remediation, monitoring, thresholds, SLAs, and reporting.
  • Provide strategic direction, oversight, and prioritization for identifying, implementing, and maintaining Data Governance tooling capabilities to ensure solutions align with governance objectives, business needs, regulatory requirements, and long-term data strategy.
  • Define and implement governance capabilities that support AI transparency, accountability, traceability, and responsible use of organizational data.
  • Own and lead the Data Privacy function, including policy development, program maturity, guidance, and practices.
  • Direct and oversee the development and continuous improvement of data governance standards, processes, tools, and training materials, ensuring the team delivers scalable and sustainable practices to define, manage, share, change, and use data responsibly.
  • Integrate governance into strategic initiatives, data infrastructure efforts, planning forums, and project work so requirements, dependencies, risks, and decisions are identified early.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure data requirements, ownership, stewardship, controls, quality expectations, and downstream reporting impacts are understood and documented before changes are implemented.
  • Lead change management and communications that make governance practical and adopted, including onboarding data owners and stewards, supporting data domains, and building data literacy.
  • Lead the Data Governance team by setting priorities, managing intake and capacity, coaching team members, removing obstacles, supporting career development, and building a collaborative culture focused on trusted data.

What you have

  • 8+ years of related experience in data governance, data strategy, data management, data quality, analytics, risk management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading data governance programs, operating models, standards, policies, processes, stewardship structures, data quality practices, metadata management, or data dictionary capabilities.
  • Proven people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, prioritizing work, setting expectations, developing talent, providing feedback, and creating a supportive environment for high-performing teams.
  • Strong strategic leadership with the ability to translate broad organizational goals into clear roadmaps, measurable outcomes, repeatable processes, and practical adoption plans.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed organization, with the ability to influence partners without direct authority.
  • Ability to explain complex data and governance concepts to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to create executive-ready materials, align stakeholders, and translate complex details into clear decisions and next steps.
  • Working knowledge of data governance tools, data quality practices, metadata management, business glossary/data dictionary concepts, data lineage or data flow documentation, data requirements, and change management practices.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, assess business impact, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend pragmatic solutions.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, introduce structure, and move work forward in a fast-paced environment undergoing transformation.
  • Collaborative, relationship-oriented style with sound judgment, strong follow-through, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
  • Financial services, nonprofit, donor-advised fund, philanthropic services, risk management, compliance, or data privacy experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, data governance platforms, reporting tools, cloud data platforms, or related collaboration and documentation tools.
  • Experience building communities of practice, centers of excellence, data literacy programs, or governance enablement materials.
  • Experience developing or managing governance for data products, data platforms, AI/automation readiness, or enterprise data architecture modernization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility with senior leaders while also being willing to work through detailed data issues, process gaps, and operational dependencies.
