Reporting into the Talent & Organizational Development team, this role is a key individual contributor supporting our Grow with Schwab philosophy and our employees’ personal career development journey. This role sits within our Career Development team, which is focused on designing learning solutions that facilitate employee skill development and supporting career mobility at Schwab.
As a Career Coach at Schwab, you will partner with employees in creating, reviewing and revising their personal career development plan, provide tools and resources to support these efforts and offer guidance to overcome obstacles along the way. Career Coaches are expected to demonstrate strong, direct communication, be experts at quickly establishing rapport, and building effective relationships. Career Coaches typically have broad based business acumen and exposure to our firm wide development programs and platforms.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Meeting 1:1 with employees and guiding them on their career development journey.
- Reviewing development goals and providing suggestions on next steps.
- Sharing key development resources and tools with employees.
- Encouraging a growth mindset and reinforcing our Grow with Schwab philosophy and programs.
- Assisting employees in identifying skill gaps or areas of growth based on development objectives.
- Connecting employees with other partners at Schwab as needed (Talent Acquisition, HR Consulting, Employee Relations, etc.).
- Completing post session coaching summaries and maintaining accurate and complete records of participant interactions.
- Preparing coaching program reports as needed.
- Challenging the status quo and harnessing creativity to recommend solutions for employees.
- Utilizing tools, systems and software to effectively schedule coaching engagements and track participant information.
- Providing feedback on Schwab’s career coaching program to inform future state.
- Facilitating group sessions and workshops.
- Demonstrates exceptional discretion and judgement in interpersonal interactions.
What you have
We’re looking for someone who can bring the following skills and experience to the role. We value demonstrated capability, transferable experience, and the ability to learn and grow.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years professional work experience in a related function (e.g. talent development, learning & development, talent acquisition, career coaching, people leader).
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience leading or mentoring teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thrives on initiating and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside/outside the function while serving as a thought partner and facilitating alignment across organizational silos.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills with experience motivating others to achieve strategic career development goals.
- Proven success applying goal setting methodologies and using effective questioning skills to guide individuals toward self-discovery. Experience listening attentively, understanding interests/ important concerns, and providing helpful and specific feedback to individuals with diverse needs, skill levels and experiences.
- Coaching certification and/or familiarity with individual development concepts, coaching principles, and Schwab’s career development resources.
- Experience working in a highly regulated financial services environment along with strong broad-based business acumen, and familiarity with Schwab’s organizational structure and alignment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and manage complexities of working with a variety of individuals.
- Technically proficient or the ability to quickly learn tools and systems required to manage career coaching engagements (scheduling tools, intake forms, tracking systems & reporting) to include Schwab’s myHR and myCareer platforms.
- Experience facilitating workshops or group discussions.
