We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.
The Litigation, Enforcement, and Internal Investigations team encompasses several areas, including litigation and arbitrations, regulatory defense, internal investigations, and crisis-type situations. We are recruiting a Legal Support Senior Specialist to join a team of attorneys and professionals who are responsible for litigation and arbitration matters filed against the Company. The position involves directly supporting multiple senior leaders of the Legal Services Department as well as using in-house systems and resources to perform research tasks and provide project support for the team members in Legal Services.
What you’ll do:
- Support: Provide legal and administrative support to attorneys by assisting with case management, legal research, document and case preparation, and coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel in order to ensure legal matters are handled efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Research: Locate electronically stored information (ESI) across the company for handling high-stakes litigation and arbitration matters at the direction of attorneys and other members of the litigation support team.
- Organize: Review, analyze, and prepare ESI, documents and other material for delivery to recipients in litigation and regulatory matters.
- Monitor and manage: Monitor for new legal matters filed against the company and initiate the company’s defenses by using the team’s processes and matter management software; provide administrative help with correspondence, file transfers, trial and hearing exhibits, team calendar management, and internal reporting.
- Collaborate: Support the team by skillfully lending assistance in matters across multiple operating teams.
- Learn: You and the team will work on cutting edge financial and regulatory issues essential to Schwab’s business strategy: our portfolio of matters includes a remarkable variety, including those based in securities law, contract law, employment law, antitrust law, insurance law, intellectual property law, and construction law—just to name a few. And you will continuously expand your knowledge and skills to best advise on issues essential to Schwab’s business strategy.
- Have fun: Culture is important to us! You’ll be joining a terrific team and some of the best professionals in the industry. While this is serious work, none of us take ourselves too seriously.
- Other duties as assigned: IYKYK. And when you’re on a litigation team, you know it’s impossible to capture everything in a simple job description.
- BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of legal support experience (or a general understanding of legal documents and processes), or familiarity with Schwab’s computer systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat, and comfort with learning new technologies and new technological skills.
- Excellent research and analytical skills, through which you can identify issues and collect, organize, and distill information from multiple sources and systems.
- Strong organizational techniques and attention to detail, where you are agile and manage a diverse set of priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. In other words, you can juggle (metaphorically speaking) while smiling.
- Excellent emotional intelligence and outstanding client relationship management skills. You have a love for service and collaboration with a “can-do” attitude towards solving problems and are a team player. You eagerly seek different views and delight in fresh perspectives.
- Extraordinary interpersonal and communication skills and excellence at communicating information effectively internally and externally, including to non-legal audiences.
- Excellent judgment and comfort making critical decisions under challenging circumstances and compressed timelines. You are confident and decisive, and you believe in excellent work, are efficient, and meet tight deadlines with little supervision.
- A love for challenges and solving problems, taking pride in your work, and finding joy in the process.
- Did mention joy. Let’s say it again! We love what we do. So should you! Our team is awesome, positive, enthusiastic, and kind. And that makes each workday fun and each matter uniquely interesting.
