MD, Fraud Risk Management

The Managing Director will lead the Schwab Authentication and Fraud Ecosystem (SAFE) Portfolio within Operational Services. This pivotal role involves assembling a high-performing team, maintaining the Firm’s fraud strategy, and working across business lines and technology to execute key initiatives that protect the Firm and our clients from fraud. Success will require strong executive-level engagement.

Key Outcomes:

  • Build a team that will drive the Firm’s fraud strategy and deliver key outcomes.
  • Lead the SAFE Portfolio charged with prioritizing and delivering firm-wide capabilities that combat new and emerging threats and schemes.
  • Thoughtfully allocate capacity and resources for the portfolio. Make recommendations around buy-versus-build decisions and use of third-party investments that introduce best in class fraud prevention and detection capabilities.
  • Represent the SAFE Portfolio and Operational Services to influence and drive decision making in investment planning, corporate strategy discussions, and various risk committees.
  • Propose modifications to policies and practices related to fraud risk management.
  • Expand the use of our fraud data environment, enabling our systems and teams to make quick decisions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Enhance the use of data to spot emerging fraud trends, coordinate how we measure the effectiveness of our various fraud tools, and incorporate data into decision making.
  • Shape the fraud technology roadmap by evaluating best-in-class tools and AI capabilities.
  • Represent Schwab in industry forums to anticipate emerging threats and strengthen the Firm's fraud risk response.
  • Collaborate proactively across back-office teams to ensure fraud capabilities are easily understood, adopted, and lead to efficient interactions.
  • Lead first-line fraud incident management and ensure timely end-to-end remediation.

What you have


Key Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years in increasingly senior leadership roles within a financial services organization of comparable scale and complexity with experience in risk, client service, and/or operations.
  • Proven change agent with a broad view of process improvement and operational discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate impacts of criminal activity and balance solutions with client experience.
  • Sound judgment in outlining options, recommendations, and implementing innovative solutions to address evolving fraud risk.
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with sound decision-making across risk, expense, and client experience tradeoffs.
  • Exceptional influencing and relationship management skills, with the executive presence and judgment to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Strong talent assessment and development capabilities, with a track record of delivering direct, balanced, and actionable feedback.
  • Experience leading multiple priorities and diverse teams with varied capabilities.
  • Demonstrates confidence and courage in business and talent decisions, including championing ideas and constructive dissent when needed.
  • Builds strong, authentic relationships across and beyond the organization.
  • Strategic, mission-driven, and deeply engaged in Schwab's business, clients, and competitive landscape.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
