The Trading Operations, Manager, is a confident individual with strong understanding of equities, options, and futures markets. The position requires a conversive operations and risk manager that anticipates trading and margin risk, acts accordingly to mitigate this risk, and is prepared to explain decision-making to team members, management, and clients via phone, email, and IM. This role will focus on the normal day-to-day operational and risk management activities including maintenance and risk liquidations, as well as developing leadership skills. In addition, this role is expected to materially contribute to integration efforts underway across business lines and platforms.
This is a very fast paced, high volume environment requiring the ability think and decide quickly, while balancing customer and internal expectations in order to be successful. The ideal candidate should have unparalleled communication skills, being able to explain complex topics to a variety of audiences of varying sophistication in a way that is easily understood.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Participating in a work environment that requires quick decision-making sometimes based on limited information. Must have the confidence to make decisions with limited oversight, being prepared to discuss rationale for decision making to affected internal and external parties
- Managing first line risk Regulation-T, Portfolio Margin and Futures accounts, with an emphasis on option expiration
- Ensuring client service level agreements are met and maintaining a balance between superb risk management and customer experience
- Driving clean risk results by acting as a subject matter expert, encouraging a transparent risk environment, leading project initiatives, and ensuring the Charles Schwab Margin Policy is appropriately followed
- Proactively engaging internal stakeholders and providing well-supported opinions on the current market environment
- Leading integration initiatives that balance the needs to various teams and individuals extending beyond the defined integration date
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in the trading operations and/or front-line risk environment
- Series 7, 63,4 and 3 required; series 24 or 9/10 preferred but not required
- Demonstrated equity, options and futures market experience. Additional experience working in trading or risk preferred
- Strong experience in Regulation T and futures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent time management, organizational skills and ability to set priorities and proactively tackle issues in a dynamic multi-tasking environment; an ability to reprioritize on short notice and the willingness to make difficult risk decisions
- Flexible with regard to both schedule and role as both may change with little notice in response to market performance and volatility, including outside normal business hours
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and grow working relationships with internal and external clients
- Excellent analytical and influencing skills with the ability to think creatively and offer solutions that benefit the employees, clients, and firm
- Ability to identify and mitigate risk by adhering to department and firm policies and procedures
- Ability to think strategically beyond day to day risk functions, with an eye toward process and system improvements that make risk management more transparent and approachable
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior call client experience preferred
