The Human Resources (HR) Risk Management team supports all business areas across HR and Corporate Real Estate (CRE) to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risk.
As a Manager, Business Unit Risk - HR & CRE, you will play a key role in strengthening risk management practices, promoting a strong risk culture, and ensuring alignment with enterprise risk and compliance standards. You will partner with stakeholders across Human Resources, Corporate Real Estate, Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Technology, Internal Audit, First Line Risk Management Office, and regulatory bodies to drive risk and compliance initiatives.
Success in this role requires strong analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion and strengthen a proactive risk culture across Human Resources and Corporate Real Estate.
- Serve as the primary owner for key operational risk activities, including Identity and Access Management controls and Quarterly Material Updates.
- Ensure risk issues are identified, documented, tracked, and remediated in accordance with enterprise issue management standards and governance requirements.
- Lead the execution, maintenance, and remediation of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) within MyGRC.
- Develop a deep understanding of HR and CRE business processes, risks, controls, and regulatory obligations.
- Implement and oversee risk management policies, standards, and control frameworks that support enterprise objectives.
- Partner closely with Operational Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management teams to evaluate and implement risk initiatives and program enhancements.
- Deliver clear, concise, and actionable communications regarding risk activities, process changes, and emerging issues to business stakeholders and leadership.
- Coordinate and facilitate quarterly Business Unit Risk Committee meetings and related governance activities.
- Develop executive-level risk reporting, metrics, dashboards, and presentations for governance committees, senior leadership, and regulatory audiences.
- Build strong partnerships across HR and CRE to identify, assess, document, and mitigate risks while enhancing control effectiveness.
- Support audits, regulatory reviews, testing activities, and examinations conducted by internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide risk advisory support and consultation to business leaders and partners across Risk, Compliance, Audit, Regulatory Liaison, and other control functions.
- Prepare executive summaries and briefing materials for Federal Reserve Board meetings, Regulatory Liaison Office activities, and senior leadership reviews.
- Educate and coach business partners on risk management best practices, control design, and effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Guide business partners through adverse event identification, escalation, and resolution processes.
- Represent HR and CRE in enterprise risk forums and governance meetings, ensuring key updates and requirements are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Actively participate in Schwab risk communities, sharing insights, emerging risks, and best practices with key stakeholders.
- Identify potential conflicts of interest, emerging risks, and industry trends to proactively inform risk management activities.
- Leverage data, automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions to enhance risk management capabilities, improve efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience working in a risk management and/or HR role.
- Experience operating in a highly regulated environment and collaborating with regulators and auditors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in HR, CRE, Operational Risk, Compliance, or related risk disciplines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for business and regulatory audiences.
- Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to build collaborative, trusted relationships across the organization.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, balancing business needs with risk-based decision making.
- Skilled at presenting complex information to senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
- Effective relationship building capabilities with both technical and non‑technical partners.
- Creative approach to improving processes while maintaining strong controls.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to assess complex issues and deliver solutions.
- Knowledge of financial services and familiarity with HR‑related regulations.
- Experience writing policies, procedures, or technical documentation.
- Understanding of process, risk, and control mapping; experience building risk monitoring frameworks is a plus.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies (OCC, SEC, FRB) is a plus.
- Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, and Visio.

- Strong collaboration skills and ability to contribute to a highly engaged team.
- Bachelor’s degree.
