MD & Chief Financial Officer – Schwab Bank, Wealth and Advisor Services
The MD, Chief Financial Officer - Schwab Bank, Wealth and Advisor Services is the primary business partner for the Wealth Advisory Banking and Trust Services (WABT) Enterprise and each legal entity within BTS including Schwab’s 3 banks and 2 trust companies. This role also serves as the primary business partner for Schwab’s Advisor Services (AS) business, which provides custody, trading and the support services of Charles Schwab to independent investment advisors. Collectively, the role has oversight for an annual budget of approximately $1.6 billion, more than 5,600 employees, and over $220 billion in deposits and $50 billion in loans.
The MD, Chief Financial Officer - Schwab Bank, Wealth and Advisor Services will lead five teams:
Bank & Trust Services (BTS) Finance team responsible for fully dedicated FP&A support to our BTS Enterprise and five legal entities including financial reporting, budgeting, long term strategic planning, profitability analysis, and supporting the examinations conducted by the various State and Federal agencies with regulatory oversight over Schwab’s banking and trust operations. The team also provides costing for the legal entities’ agreements with its affiliates.
Bank & Trust Services (BTS) Lending and Pricingteam responsible for key strategies and decisions to support and grow our mortgage offerings supporting our clients, including optimizing the relationship with our mortgage loan partner, Rocket. The team also provides comprehensive analytical support including loan pricing, profitability, loan purchases and reporting and analytics. This team also supports our growing Pledged Asset Line offering which clients leverage for a wide range of needs including home purchase, home renovation, business startup, tax payments, and college tuition.
Wealth Advisoryteam responsible for fully dedicated FP&A support including financial planning, performance analysis and strategic decision support to align the Wealth Advisory business with Schwab’s broader financial objectives. This team will support the Enterprise’s objectives to deepen relationships with individual investors and advisors through expanded wealth advisory and lending capabilities including SWA and SAN through budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis.
Advisor Services (AS) Finance team responsible for fully dedicated FP&A support including financial planning, performance analysis and strategic decision support to align the Advisor Services business with Schwab’s broader financial objectives. This team leads budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis, while partnering closely with AS leadership. Their work ensures data-driven decisions, transparency, and agility in a fast-evolving market and regulatory environment.
Advisor Services (AS) Sales Finance & Strategy team partners with the AS Sales team to make pricing and upfront investment decisions to support the acquisition of new advisors and to retain existing advisors. This team is responsible for providing pricing strategy, policy and decisions support.
Key outcomes:
- Translate Banking Enterprise priorities into bank-level financial strategies to support lending, deposit, and interest income growth within risk and regulatory parameters.
- Translate Wealth Advisory Enterprise priorities into financial strategies to support the growth of wealth offers while maintaining balance sheet priorities.
- Lead Bank Finance team in preparation of the Quarterly Financial Report for Board of Directors for both the banks and the trust companies including Executive Summary, Balance Sheet and Income Statement, Information on Liquidity and Investments and Interest Rate Risk Analysis and manage annual preparation of audited financial statements.
- Prepare and present Monthly Financial Report for Management Committee similar in content to Board report and summary of monthly financial results for the President of BTS Schwab Bank.
- Prepare and present quarterly financial results materials for the Banks’ Fiduciary Committee.
- Serve as Chair Loan Pricing Committee, Board member of CSTC and CSTCD, and voting member of Management Risk Committee, ALCO, NPSC, and FINROC
- Serve as the primary interface with banking regulators on financial issues and work with Treasurer on inter-entity capital issues. In collaboration with Schwab Treasury, oversee policies for Liquidity and Investment, Capital and Liquidity, and finance, accounting, and tax aspects of implementation of the CRA policy.
- Participate in key strategic, financial, and analytic decisions to effectively balance corporate and enterprise goals and guide financial management practices, financial target setting, budget allocations, analytic initiatives, and project spending priorities.
- Analyze internal and external factors impacting performance and effectively incorporate findings into financial plans.
- Consolidate expense forecast and scenario planning working across Enterprises
- Work across Enterprise Finance teams to ensure multi-year plans reflect the latest business thinking and expected outcomes of investments in technology and digital.
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of finance professionals; foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement.
- Support investor-facing narratives, Board-level communications, and capital markets considerations in collaboration with Treasury and Investor Relations.
What you have
Required Experience:
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience in banking or financial services, with at least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance leadership role at a regulated bank.
- Deep expertise in banking financials, including net interest income, liquidity, capital, credit risk, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong understanding of U.S. bank regulatory frameworks, including OCC, FRB, and FDIC expectations and relevant capital/liquidity rules.
- Experience navigating multi-entity financial environments, including bank/broker-dealer or bank/asset management integration.
- Leverage strategic and analytical capabilities to make sound, timely decisions based on business input including evaluating risk versus expense versus the client experience.
- A change agent. Able to take a broad view of continuous process improvement and operational discipline to identify and maximize what we do and how we do it across the finance function.
- Clear communicator, effective with internal stakeholders, the Board, and regulatory bodies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; CPA, CFA, or MBA strongly preferred.
