International Services is a diverse and multi-faceted organization, we not only support retail clients around the world but also a variety of internal partners and domestic clients through governance, subject matter expertise, translation capabilities and global product management. The Schwab International team is a business unit dedicated to empowering investors who reside inside and outside of the United States with the tools to invest and trade globally. Schwab’s International Retail business serves clients in 200 countries with a focus on approximately 60 jurisdictions.

Within International Services, the International Product, Client Experience and Education team is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction around the client value proposition for clients living outside the United States and US clients seeking investments in foreign markets. This includes identifying the needs of international clients, setting strategic priorities, and developing and managing projects to enhance the client offering/ experience. As we continue to build momentum on our international growth, we are looking for a strategic, results-oriented leader will refine our overall Retail International strategy, identifying the optimum opportunities for Schwab to pursue.

Job Summary

The Director of International Client Experience will report to the Managing Director of Product, Client Experience and Education. This individual will lead a team responsible for delivering a best -in-class experience for all Schwab international clients.

The Director’s team will work with partners across Schwab to ensure the products and capabilities we offer our clients deliver a strong, positive experience, and are successful for clients, the field, and the firm. This leader acts as the International client subject matter expert or “voice of the client” for critical product and offer development initiatives and enhancements.

The Director also acts as an integrator across the different partners who have an impact on client experience, working to ensure we have clear communications, awareness and partnership of the many efforts that touch our clients, and the field teams who serve them.  This leader will be responsible for creating and maintaining cross-functional relationships with domestic Retail Client Experience, Digital, Technology, Product, Marketing and  Service/ Sales organizations to enable the team’s success, as well as acting as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the Managing Director and other team leadership.

This role is charged with delivering high impact contributions across a range of “high stakes” strategic deliverables.

The successful candidate will have strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of the organization and across Schwab’s businesses. This individual must be a self-starter and a thought leader, approaching issues with a client-first mentality and leading stakeholders through structured decision-making processes. The individual must be able to lead a team in managing multiple major firm initiatives, prioritizing resources effectively, cultivating strong partnerships, and influencing others outside their immediate team to execute on decisions made. This person will have a curious mind with a can-do attitude and think critically to articulate and solve problems, understand complex issues, and thrive in a complex, dynamic environment.  They will rapidly comprehend complex situations and demonstrate an ability to distill decision optionality to leadership for strategic alignment.

What you have


To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

  • 10+ years of extensive financial services experience, with strong knowledge and expertise in brokerage products, capabilities, and services;
  • 5+ years of proven people leadership experience
  • High degree of comfort dealing with ambiguity; comfort in leading within a dynamic and fast-moving work environment
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, able to lead their own team as well as partners in delivering results
  • A strategic thinker with strong business judgment and analytical skills, who is able to problem-solve as issues arise
  • Ability to lead a team in managing multiple major firm initiatives, prioritizing resources effectively, cultivating strong partnerships, and influencing others outside their immediate team to execute on decisions made.
  • Excellent project management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work efficiently (independently and with teams), to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong relationship building and partnerships skills; a strong team player
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability developing materials and effectively presenting to executive audiences
  • Expert user of PowerPoint and Excel
