Our Opportunity:

Corporate Vendor Management (CVM) at Charles Schwab & Co. is responsible for implementing a firm-wide, end-to-end vendor relationship management process to maximize vendor performance and value.  CVM provides strategic sourcing support; identifies, mitigates, monitors, and manages vendor risk; and assists Schwab in meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.  The CVM organization is currently seeking to expand category management expertise and strategic sourcing capabilities in the Enterprise Services space, specifically for the Human Resources category.

The Senior Team Manager, Sourcing – Human Resources, will model Schwab’s leadership imperatives:

The Senior Team Manager plays an essential role within CVM.  You will be responsible for leading and coaching sourcing managers and providing business partners with strategic sourcing support, contract negotiation and risk mitigation expertise across key vendor relationships.  You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities, building category strategies, then implementing action plans to drive those strategic efforts.

This position will be responsible for fostering strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the firm; developing, maintaining and executing human resources category plans with business partners; managing all aspects of the strategic sourcing lifecycle; as well as collaborating with risk groups and legal, as required, on vendor engagements.  The Senior Team Manager will also ensure that industry-leading procurement tools are utilized to support growth relationships for our suppliers and business partners.

Success in this role requires a passion for building and maintaining relationships, demonstrated experience leading teams via sound decision making and execution, strong communication skills, and effective analysis of needs and best practices across sourcing and contracting.  Essential to your role as a people manager is the ability to translate strategic thinking into manageable steps for execution, detailing required tasks and key milestones.  The successful leader will be skilled in coaching and developing teams of professional individual contributors.

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in category management and strategic sourcing, including creation of category strategies (required)

  • Practice leading complex Request for Proposals (RFPs), including developing market intelligence reports, conducting financial analysis and thorough supplier evaluations (required)

  • Proficiency leading complex contract negotiations, including coordination with up to 9 risk review teams and Legal, in a regulated financial services environment (required)

  • Deep understanding and experience of Human Resources sourcing in complex corporate environments (required)

  • Effective team leader with the ability to influence and implement process improvement

  • The ability to lead cross-functional teams and build category management plans that maximize value and mitigate risks while ensuring internal stakeholders’ requirements are met 

  • Expertise in training, coaching and developing a high performing team in a fast-paced high pressure environment

  • Proven track record of building effective working relationships with senior level business partners and internal/ external stakeholders

  • Energetic, self-starter, able to manage multiple projects and succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal direction

  • Flexible and adaptable in handling/implementing change and understands how that change will impact the team, internal business partners and vendors

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, conflict resolution, facilitation, and negotiation skills 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Ariba (required)

  • Experience with Zip, PeopleSoft and/or Access is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
