We are looking for a talented Sr. Database Administrator to join our Advisor Services Technology (AST) Organization. We are amid re-architecting and rebuilding our database platforms to support our rapidly growing and evolving business. Our engineers are hands-on developers who excel in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment. We are passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable software. You'll be a part of Schwab's Advisor Services Database Team: A group of thought leaders responsible for database Technology strategy.
Advisor Services Technologies is looking for an ambitious, hard-working, and curious Database developer who can take up a complex challenge and deliver it successfully. This opportunity supports multiple development teams with large client (Advisors) facing applications. You will work with results-oriented software professionals who share a passion for technology, innovation, and excellence.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Database Developer to join our Database Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise-scale database solutions across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server platforms. This role requires strong expertise in database development, performance tuning, data migration, automation, and production support.
You will work closely with application development teams, architects, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, secure, and reliable database solutions that support mission-critical applications. Participation in a production support on-call rotation including weekends are a must.
The successful candidate will have a consistent track record of successfully supporting database migrations and upgrades and being engaged in DEV and PROD related DBA tasks. You will also be responsible for mentoring and guiding junior and mid-level level database developers
What you have
To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required:
- 12-14 years of hands-on experience working with Oracle/Sql server (Primary) Database administration with experience in High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR)
- Postgres Database Administration experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of database security, patching, and compliance.
- Proficient in DB monitoring tools: Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)/Foglight/Query Store
- Expert-level knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, database tuning, and performance optimization.
- Cloud SQL for Postgres SQL experience is desirable.
- Have strong database development skills (Oracle, and SQL Server (preferred). Postgres (On-prem, and cloud) is a plus)
- Developing enterprise solutions to support in areas like backup, monitoring, alerting, security compliance, and patching for Oracle, and SQL Server. Postgres is a plus.
- Experience scripting languages like Perl, and PowerShell for automation.
- Experience developing and deploying ETL processes for large data sets.
- Willingness to work on weekends and night shifts / US timings.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tools (e.g., GitHub, GitActions, Bamboo).
- Experience with database performance tuning tools and techniques.
- Strong ability to effectively manage multiple, competing, high-priority projects with varying deadlines and be able to work under pressure during production issues.
- Ability to work independently and work well in a small team fast-paced environment.
- Must be passionate about databases, data, and help others.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills, coupled with a desire to take on responsibilities and deliver with minimal defects.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, best practices, and knowledge artifacts to support cloud and engineered systems operations.
- Able to quickly grasp complex concepts and learn new technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with Microsoft Teams, Jira, Confluence, Remedy, GitHub, GitActions, Bamboo and Bitbucket are a must.
- Mentor and training associates and offshore developers as needed
- Assist with streamlining and organizing documentation, sharing knowledge, ideas and concepts with the team, collaborating and truly believing in the concept of teamwork
Preferred:
- Prior experience in financial industry is a plus.
- Oracle or SQL Server certification is a plus.
