At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.

The Portfolio Management Technology team is seeking a talented software engineer to help build and modernize business-critical platforms that support portfolio accounting, transaction processing, trading, margin, and risk-management capabilities. These systems must process high transaction volumes and complex data flows while maintaining the accuracy, availability, resiliency, security, and auditability required in a highly regulated financial environment.

This role will partner closely with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, quality engineering, and platform teams to translate evolving business and regulatory needs into scalable technology solutions. The engineer will contribute to the modernization of legacy and on-premises applications using cloud-ready and cloud-native architectures, distributed services, APIs, event-driven integration, automated delivery pipelines, observability, and modern engineering practices. The opportunity includes improving processing performance and operational resilience, reducing manual effort and technology risk, and delivering secure, reusable solutions that can scale with continued business growth.

What you'll do:

  • Translate business, regulatory, and operational requirements into well-designed technical solutions and actionable user stories.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient services, APIs, integrations, and data-processing components.
  • Modernize legacy applications using cloud-ready and cloud-native architecture, event-driven integration, and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, quality engineering, platform teams, and business stakeholders to refine scope, estimate work, and deliver prioritized capabilities.
  • Build automated unit, integration, and regression tests and participate in code reviews to maintain engineering quality.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, release readiness, production deployments, and continuous improvement of delivery practices.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting to improve observability and operational resilience.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver sustainable corrective actions.
  • Identify technology, security, performance, and delivery risks early and collaborate on effective mitigation plans.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of hands-on software development experience using C#, .NET, and .NET Core.
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale, distributed, and transaction-processing applications.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, design patterns, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience developing secure RESTful APIs and integrating with internal and external services.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms and relational and NoSQL databases such as SQL Server, Aerospike, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Experience building or modernizing applications on cloud platforms such as GCP or PCF.
  • Strong understanding of automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, secure development, and production deployment practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve application performance, observability, and resilience.
  • Experience translating business and technical requirements into Agile user stories and scalable solutions.
  • Experience using approved AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, testing, documentation, or delivery quality.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced, geographically distributed environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing software for financial-services, brokerage, portfolio accounting, trading, margin, or risk-management platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies and databases such as Aerospike
  • Experience building cloud-native applications on GCP and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working across multiple Scrum teams in a Scaled Agile and geographically distributed environment.
  • Familiarity with observability, performance tuning, secure development, and production-support practices for high-volume systems.
