The Schwab SRE Platform team is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineering Software Developer to join a specialized group focused on developing shared support tools for Schwab’s critical production applications. The role centers on designing innovative reliability software that enhances support engineers’ capabilities, automates support processes, and promotes SRE principles across the organization. Collaboration with your immediate team and other SRE teams across the organization is key to achieving platform goals and integrating automation requirements. The SRE Platform team emphasizes proactive problem prevention, rapid recovery, continuous improvement, and fostering a blameless learning culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply software development best practices by conducting peer code reviews, documenting architectural solutions, and supporting deployment and validation processes to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Design and develop secure, scalable software using asynchronous architectures, focusing on multi-tenancy and complex authorization.
• Implement caching and resilient systems to improve reliability and address production challenges in Schwab’s tech support.
• Resolve database scalability issues, manage schema migrations, and optimize large-scale pagination for smooth application maintenance.
• Build automation to integrate third-party and internal applications, collaborating with teams to solve shared technical hurdles.
• Uphold best practices through code reviews, architecture documentation, and supporting deployment for continuous improvement.

What you have

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience supporting enterprise software applications, creating support scripts, and developing support application tools.
• 5+ years of experience providing daily monitoring, operations, maintenance, and incident remediation of production applications.
•  A Bachelor’s (4-year) degree with a major in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated problem-solving, incident resolution, and technical coordination skills applied during critical priority production incidents.
• Experience with analyzing incident root cause using the SRE postmortem process.
• Development experience automating production support processes.
• Experience creating application and data architectures for greenfield full-stack production support applications.
• A deep understanding of Site Reliability Engineering concepts and their real-world application.
• Back-end software development experience creating applications using Java and the Spring Framework to create REST services.
• Experience deploying and managing applications in a container orchestration ecosystem such as Cloud Foundry.
• Database design and SQL experience using RDBMS systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL
• Knowledge of production input/process/output workflows using enterprise publish/subscribe messaging platforms.
• Working with the Linux operating system and various command line tools.
• GIT source control and Git Hub
• Linux scripting, systems administration, and basic network administration

Preferred Qualifications

- Full stack development with front-end, back-end, and database components.
