Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by delivering innovative, secure, and reliable technology solutions that support investing and financial planning. Within Schwab Asset Management Technology, the Investment Research Technology team develops and enhances the platforms used by investment professionals and clients to make informed financial decisions.
As a Java Developer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to modern, cloud-ready applications that power research and asset management capabilities across the firm. Working within an Agile environment, you will collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and quality teams to solve complex business challenges through scalable software solutions. This role offers exposure to modern engineering practices including microservices, API development, cloud technologies, automation, CI/CD, and user experience modernization while building skills that support long-term growth as a software engineer.
You will help deliver enhancements that improve platform performance, user efficiency, and business outcomes by developing high-quality software, participating in modernization initiatives, supporting event-driven architectures, and contributing to applications that automate key workflows. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning within a fast-paced technology organization.
What you have
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in software development, including internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, academic projects, or professional experience.
- Foundational proficiency in Java software development and object-oriented programming principles.
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design fundamentals.
- Experience writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining code with a focus on quality and reliability.
- Familiarity with relational databases and the ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, web services, and modern application development concepts.
- Experience using Git or similar version control tools in a collaborative development environment.
- Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt within an Agile software development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Spring Framework or Spring Boot.
- Exposure to microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Experience developing or consuming REST APIs.
- Familiarity with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit or Mockito.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker.
- Exposure to NoSQL databases including MongoDB.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum teams using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Exposure to Angular or other modern front-end frameworks.
- Experience with Python-based development, analytics, or dashboard visualization tools.
- Passion for continuous improvement, clean code principles, and software engineering best practices.
- Familiarity with responsible use of AI-assisted development tools within established governance and security standards.
