Stock Plan Services Technology (SPT) group is a part of WSE building and hosting the applications and platforms critical to enabling Schwab to serve corporate clients Equity Compensation plans and to provide industry leading monitoring and oversight of employees’ stock purchases that may represent inside knowledge.

The Director of Software Engineering for Stock Plan Services Technology is a seasoned engineer leader who will collaborate with SPS product and technology teams, as well as lead an engineering group with a client-focused mindset. They will be responsible for developing frameworks, platform components, and applications consistent with Schwab's architectural standards. They will play a key role in a rapidly expanding and heavily invested division at Schwab, driving innovation and growth in a dynamic environment. Schwab is seeking a leader who is both hands-on in their approach and capable of operating at a strategic level, ensuring seamless integration of technology advancements with business objectives.

Key Outcomes: 

  • Ownership of delivery and sustenance of applications in the Stock Plan Services technology portfolio.
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders across product and business operations to influence and negotiate effective solutions and platform/product direction.
  • Leading an engineering organization that builds and hosts an equity compensation management platform enabling clients to effectively manage their equity compensation plans and provide an best-in-class experience to participants and corporate plan sponsors within the Schwab Retail ecosystem.
  • Providing leadership and oversight of Engineering Software Development teams.
  • Leading talent and performance management for their team.
  • Managing relationships with key vendors and partners.
  • Providing highly resilient production support and management of critical platforms.
  • Drive platform modernization initiatives, including API, foundational system improvements and public cloud transformation

What you have


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • At least 3+ years of experience leading people leaders
  • A robust understanding of cloud-native technologies and distributed systems, coupled with the experience of managing a team comprising software development managers, architects, platform engineers, and technical leads, all driven by a commitment to addressing business challenges through technological solutions.
  • Solid background building scalable enterprise applications with high availability and reliability in Financial Services domain
  • Sets the strategic vision for application support driving operational efficiency and minimizing disruption
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with extensive experience leading platform engineering and software development teams.
  • Experience leading strategic incident response initiatives while guiding governance practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading an engineering group within an equity plan and/or workplace technology organization
  • A creative mind for problem solving with a strong client focused mindset, and ability to forge relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage expectations through effective communication.
  • Ability to execute at scale in a dynamic environment, build strong relationships and promote collaboration, identify top talent, recruit, hire, coach, mentor and build high performing engineering teams; experience setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability.
  • Fosters a culture of autonomy to drive strategic achievement
  • Influences innovative solutions and contingency plans in the broader business area
  • Acts to create pathways for diverse talent, ensuring equal opportunities and a robust leadership pipeline
