At Schwab, the Cloud Services organization within Schwab Technology Services (STS) empowers Schwab’s development teams with an easy to use, self-service catalog of operationalized, secure cloud products meeting Schwab’s regulatory requirements that exceed Client expectations. The organization’s mission is to operationalize Schwab’s cloud capabilities to enable the scalable and secure migration of Enterprise applications to our multi-cloud infrastructure.
As the Cloud Services Senior Manager, Cloud Engineering (Lead), you will oversee 1-2 strategic cloud capabilities—such as Observability, AI Services, Automation & Orchestration, Cloud Inventory & Module Lifecycle, Operations Reporting & Tooling, and Cloud Journey Tooling—in addition to the foundational tooling that simplifies business processes. Your leadership will be pivotal in scaling application onboarding, automating repetitive tasks, and implementing best-in-class tooling to drive operational excellence across our core cloud platforms.
We are seeking a self-driven technical thought leader with exceptional problem-solving abilities, capable of spearheading cloud designs from Proof of Concept through governance approvals and into production deployment. You will foster collaboration within a highly dynamic team environment, supporting our clients to build resilient, secure cloud services, and actively reduce technical debt by leveraging Cloud Services platforms.
You’ll collaborate with top-tier technologists and subject matter experts across Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Cloud Security, Cloud Reliability Engineering, and Cloud Platform Engineering. What You’re Good At
• Diagnosing and resolving complex issues across cloud infrastructure, swiftly identifying root causes and driving permanent fixes.
• Planning, designing, building and deploying custom multi-cloud solutions tailored to business needs while following best practices in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Developing, maintaining, and optimizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources on leading public cloud platforms.
• Collaborating and influencing cross-functional teams—including Cloud Architecture, Cloud Engineering, Application DevOps, Cloud SRE, and Cloud Tools Engineering—to design production-ready solutions and accelerate adoption of Cloud Services for clients.
• Delivering impactful, organization-wide results through scaling, standardizing, visualizing, or observing core cloud services in production environments.
• Communicating effectively—both written and verbal—across teams and technical leadership levels, demonstrating strong listening skills.
• Designing and executing strategic technology plans in partnership with business stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration across technology and business units.
• Creating and maintaining solution architecture documentation and securing approvals across senior technology leaders, and architecture review boards.
• Operating and analyzing existing tooling solutions to identify and remediate technical debt.
• Thriving in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve rapidly.
• Demonstrating a strong affinity for technology and hands-on experience with IT, DevOps, or DevSecOps practices.
• Working effectively within Agile release management teams
What you have
To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a technical lead, directly overseeing cloud engineering development teams.
• Proficiency in writing Epics/Stories, managing product backlogs, including prioritizing features, bugs requests.
• 5+ years supporting infrastructure and/or application development.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting cloud environments with at least two major providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 5+ years of experience working with Infrastructure as code, preferably leveraging Terraform designing net-new modules and/or maintaining modules including troubleshooting and resolving issues with existing modules.
• Proficiency with cloud security products and secure design principles.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Bamboo, Bitbucket, and the Atlassian Stack.
• Experience with various operating systems, including Linux, Unix, and Windows.
• Highly Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, Go (Golang), Bash, and C++.
• Familiarity with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) operational processes to ensure high availability and service continuity across the technology stack.
• Experience with environment provisioning and deployment automation tools such as Salt, Chef, and/or Puppet.
