Software Developer Engineer in Test (SDET – ROAR - Digital Welcome)
Schwab continues to invest heavily in digital experiences that improve how clients onboard, engage, and grow with the firm. The ROAR - Digital Welcome team plays a critical role in delivering scalable, reliable, and high-quality client journeys across Schwab’s web platforms. We are looking for a highly capable and dependable Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support the Digital Welcome and Activation web platforms. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-facing digital experiences that are secure, scalable, and reliable.
The SDET will demonstrate end-to-end ownership of quality across the full software development lifecycle, contributing to the successful certification and release of complex Digital Welcome capabilities. This role partners closely with engineering, product, and platform teams to proactively identify risks, prevent defects, and protect the client experience during high-visibility and high-risk releases.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on automation development, collaborating closely with software engineers, and continuously improving quality through modern testing practices and frameworks. You will work as part of a cross-functional agile team focused on delivering secure, performant, and highly reliable web applications.
What you are good at
· Designing, developing, executing, and maintaining automated test solutions for web applications, APIs, and services in an agile delivery model
· Building and enhancing test automation frameworks to improve test coverage, reliability, and reusability across the Digital Welcome web platform
· Writing and maintaining automated tests across the testing pyramid, including UI, API, integration, and component-level tests
· Partnering closely with software engineers to ensure testability, quality, and automation coverage throughout the SDLC
· Owning end-to-end quality for Digital Welcome web initiatives, including automation, integration, regression, and release certification
· Independently certifying platform and technology upgrades, ensuring system stability across interconnected applications
· Executing and maintaining automated tests within CI/CD pipelines using a DevOps mindset
· Identifying test gaps, analyzing failures, and troubleshooting defects to ensure timely resolution
· Contributing to acceptance test-driven development (ATDD) and behavior-drivendevelopment (BDD) practices
· Proactively identifying risks, edge cases, and potential production issues early in the lifecycle to prevent defects before launch
· Preparing and maintaining test documentation while adhering to Schwab development andquality standards
· Producing clear test documentation and communicating release readiness, risks, and quality status to stakeholders
· Serving as a trusted quality partner for development, product, audit, and downstream teams
· Continuously learning and applying industry best practices in test automation, tooling, and frameworks
What you have

Required Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or SDET roles
· Hands-on experience developing and maintaining automated tests using object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Ruby, C#, or similar
· Experience with web automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver and MABL
· Experience testing web services and APIs, including test data creation and validation
· Familiarity with CI/CD tools and pipelines, including Jenkins or Bamboo, and source control systems such as Git
· Experience working in Agile development environments
· Understanding of defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., JIRA, Zephyr,etc)
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, QA, and product teams
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with test environment setup and maintenance
· Experience with service virtualization or mock frameworks
· Familiarity with DevOps principles and automation-first quality strategies
· Prior experience supporting high-visibility, customer-facing web applications in an enterprise environment
· Experience with platform modernization or framework upgrades
· Experience with performance, scalability, or integration testing
· Experience with test data management
· Experience supporting audit, compliance, or production-critical release
