Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

The Director of Liquidity Risk Oversight and Program Management will lead two teams of analysts within Financial Risk Management (FRM), the independent risk function situated within Corporate Risk Management.  The role reports to the MD, Head of FRM and is a member of the FRM Leadership Team.  The role will lead both FRM’s Liquidity Risk Oversight team and Financial Risk Program Management Team.

The Liquidity Risk Oversight responsibilities center on providing effective challenge to assumptions utilized to measure adequacy of liquidity and funding sized and managed by Corporate Liquidity Management & Planning.  The FRM Program Management team coordinates with subject matter experts among the financial risk category programs (credit, liquidity, capital, and market risk) to enhance standards and controls associated with risk identification, measurement, aggregation, and reporting.  Included in these responsibilities is the development and execution of the overall financial risk management strategy and alignment with the evolving financial and regulatory landscape. The role requires effective communication through written documentation of risk program frameworks supporting annual risk assessments.  The role will also oversee programmatic linkages among the RCSA financial risk inventory, associated risk drivers, controls, testing, monitoring, and retrospective reviews.

Included in these activities, the Director will:

  • Serve as a non-voting member and secretary of the Financial Risk Oversight Committee (FinROC), a senior and executive level risk committee with reporting lines to the Global Risk Committee (GRC) and the Board Risk Committee (BRC).

  • Provide independent liquidity risk reporting to FinROC, GRC, and BRC.

  • Oversee detailed analyses and effective challenges to assumptions supporting Internal Liquidity Stress Testing (ILST), Contingency Funding Plan (CFP), and daily liquidity metrics, including Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) and internally-derived metrics.

  • Consult with members of the Market Risk and Capital Oversight teams to properly measure interconnectedness among liquidity, capital and interest rate exposures and risks.

  • Interface with internal partners such as the Regulatory Liaison Office and Internal Audit Department, and external regulatory bodies, including the Federal Reserve, to effectively address critical projects related to regulatory remediation.

  • Participate in gap assessments to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards. Communicate existing gaps and work with business partners to close in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate risk assessments to determine gaps in the firm’s ability to identify, manage, monitor, report, and control existing and emerging financial risks.

  • Serve as RCSA Administrator, including association of risk drivers to risk inventory and related controls, control identification and development within models, analyses, testing, and monitoring.

  • Maintain the inventory and disposition of effective challenges and issue management.
