The Retirement Plan Services Technology group builds and maintains the applications and platforms supporting Schwab’s retirement plan business, one of the leading providers of retirement plan services for medium to large-sized companies in the U.S. Our teams deliver high-quality solutions which enable employees of the companies we serve to create secure financial futures. As a Specialist Software Engineer in Retirement Plan Services Technology, you will work with your fellow team members to consistently produce high-quality output by participating in all facets of software delivery, including design, development, testing, deployment, tooling, and support. You will serve as a strong, versatile, hands-on software engineer, delivering solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment.
In this role you will:
- Assist with developing software applications to support retirement plan administration
- Participate on an agile team of developers, testers, product owners and scrum masters
- Participate in discussions and engage other team members to flesh out system requirements where minimal information is provided
- Design and build automated tests
- Release applications to production environments on a regularly scheduled basis
- Provide production application support for applications that require 99% uptime
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of " challenging the status quo " this role has specific qualifications that successful should have.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2-4 years of .NET design and development experience
- Demonstrated expertise in object-oriented development, Microsoft SQL Server, SOAP and REST web services, CI/CD
- A strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, software development, testing, maintenance, and support
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with Agile (Scrum/Kanban)
- Experience with Test Driven Development and automated testing design
- Experience with the Atlassian suite of products (Confluence, JIRA, Bamboo)
- Familiarity with Cloud Platforms such as PCF, GCP, and AWS
- Use of AI tooling (Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini, ChatGPT, etc)
In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
