Director, Retail Compliance
Your Opportunity
Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency, and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, a preferred candidate for this role has been identified.
Schwab seeks a compliance Director to provide regulatory support and guidance to the varying specialty groups and functions within Retail Sales. The Director will be an individual contributor aligned to the multiple business units throughout the Retail Sales organization, including Franchise, Specialty and Workplace Branches. In many ways, Schwab Retail represents the public face of the company and supporting the teams who interact with our clients everyday is a vital function. They will question, challenge, support, and coach partners and leaders within these Retail organizations, towards a goal of maintaining a culture of compliance throughout the organization. They will also work with Compliance colleagues in representing the needs and interests of Schwab Retail in broader enterprise initiatives.
The successful candidate will report to the Director, Retail Branch & Service Center Compliance, whose responsibilities include leading support for the Investor Services function.
Each Director in Schwab Compliance helps realize the strategic direction of the companywide compliance risk management program. Each Director is assigned leadership responsibility for specific functions and programs and specific strategic and program objectives, and shares the same measures of success:
- Personal ownership of their assigned compliance risk management responsibilities as team lead and shared accountability for the successful execution of the Schwab compliance risk management program.
- Vivid day-to-day evidence of enterprise-wide thinking, bringing the full Schwab Compliance perspective to every aspect of the job, including exceptional collaboration and cooperation with Schwab Compliance peers, demonstrating the lived values of #OneSchwab and #OneSchwabCompliance.
- Demonstrated success attracting, retaining, empowering, and developing a diverse group of employees with the skillsets and expertise to identify, measure and manage Schwab’s compliance risk effectively.
Effective challenge is the critical analysis of inputs, processes and outputs associated with risk management activities, by informed independent parties to ensure current and emerging risks are well understood, objectively evaluated, and escalated as appropriate. Effective challenge encompasses the evaluation of the conceptual soundness of identified and assessed risks; adequacy of mitigation and controls; relevancy of risk metrics and limits; and consistency of risk reporting and escalation.
Enterprise-wide thinking is an approach that considers the entire organization, rather than an individual business or entity. It involves the holistic view of regulatory impact and business strategies. Collaboration, open communication, and alignment across teams are drivers for success. Enterprise-wide thinking means taking a big picture view.
