Workplace Services Business Unit (BU) Risk provides first line risk management support to businesses under the Workplace Umbrella: Retirement Plan Services, Stock Plan Services, Designated Brokerage Services, and Retirement Business Services.
The BU Risk Director (PL) will be responsible for leading a team that helps drive the implementation of initiatives related to both existing and emerging risks. This role will also help identify areas for process improvement to limit risk to the firm and improve the participant and client experience. This role will require excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with numerous business partners across the entire organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate efforts with key business partners in the management of BU Risk initiatives
- Provide oversight and drive implementation of new or significant corporate policy and standard changes to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation
- Provide consultation, facilitation, and analytical support to ensure internal controls are properly implemented to provide flawless client service and compliance with regulatory obligations
- Provide project updates and status to key stakeholders at the appropriate level of detail to enable action to be taken on issues
- Identify areas of process and control weakness, develop solutions, and monitor implementation
- Collaborate with executives and line management to create, sustain, and strengthen the internal control framework through risk identification and control design and implementation
- Coordinate administration of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and Issue Management
- Coordinate support for internal and external testing engagement, including RCAT, IAD, and SOC1 and SOC2
- Responsible for partnering with WS senior leadership, business contacts, and testing contacts (internal and external to Schwab) to streamline testing and maximize collaboration across teams
- Meet regularly with individual team members to provide coaching, support, and direction in a constructive manner to help improve performance
- Recruit, select, coach, recognize and champion great talent. Effectively interview, evaluate, and be collectively accountable for hiring candidates that fit into Schwab’s Strategic Framework
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in risk management or similar role; with 3+ years of people leadership
- An undergraduate degree in Business, Technology, Accounting or equivalent experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Managerial courage, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced changing and ambiguous environment is essential to success in this role
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Experience influencing leaders from Director up to Managing Director
- Strong project management skills including the ability to lead a team working on multiple initiatives simultaneously while prioritizing based on risk/business needs
- Ability to effectively work and collaborate with technical and non-technical resources
