The Portfolio Performance Engineering (PPE) Team represents a centralized domain responsible for managing

holdings, investment performance, and automated rebalancing across the universe of investment portfolios within

Schwab. The PPE Development team is looking for a Sr Manager, Software Development & Engineering Senior who

will excel in a dynamic fast-paced environment. PPE offers a wide range of technology opportunities for the best and

brightest people to grow and demonstrate their skills as they develop high-performance financial applications.

The Sr Manager, Software Development & Engineering Senior will work closely with the development team and

business partners to plan, create and execute manual and automated software testing activities while fulfilling the

role of QA lead on multiple projects implementing new features and enhancements, and bug fixes on a large and

complex portfolio management system. The right candidate will have expertise with QA best practices and have

proven experience performing all QA-related functions such as vetting requirements, creating Test Plans and test

cases, executing test cases, creating automation scripts, and reviewing regression results in order to quickly

determine if our products are ready for market. QA team members at PPE work very closely with developers on an

integrated team dedicated to delivering high quality solutions, and the right candidate will enjoy being part of a highly

interactive, agile team.

- Develop comprehensive quality strategies that address all aspects of your team's systems, including functional

correctness, performance, security, and reliability.

- Design architectural testing approaches that ensure effective test coverage for complex, interconnected features.

- Lead quality improvement initiatives that measurably reduce defect rates and improve release confidence.

- Establish quality standards, metrics, and best practices that guide the team's testing efforts.

- Analyze quality trends and metrics to identify systemic issues and drive process improvements.

- Collaborate with system architects and technical leads to ensure testability is considered in design decisions.

- Guide the evolution of testing tools and frameworks to address changing product and technology needs.

- Mentor team members on advanced testing techniques, quality engineering principles, and test automation.

- Advocate for quality considerations in planning, architecture, and implementation decisions.

- Apply exceptional analytical thinking to anticipate quality risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.

- Communicate complex quality concepts and strategies effectively to various stakeholders.

- Demonstrate thoroughness by ensuring quality processes address all aspects of product quality.

- Develop comprehensive understanding of and begin to influence quality practices across all PPE products and teams.

- Design testing strategies that address end-to-end flows spanning multiple products within the PPE domain.

- Extend quality knowledge beyond PPE to understand how testing approaches in other domains might benefit your

organization.

- Drive cross-team alignment on quality standards and practices throughout PPE.

What you have


To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

- 7+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance for highly complex projects related to Cloud or distributed platform,

or mainframe batch applications.

- Proven experience with black box and white box testing techniques and tools

- 5+ years of experience in test automation tools

- 2+ years of experience in C# or C++

- Experience with Oracle, SQL, MongoDB, transfer or data delivery technologies

- Strong written and verbal communications, teamwork and problem-solving skills

- Experience supporting a Test-Driven Development culture by contributing to automated unit and integration

tests

- Ability to interact and communicate successfully with business partners and technology teams

- 3+ years of experience with Agile Development Practices, Scrum

- Self-starter who can grasp difficult concepts and large architectures quickly and stay on top of new and

emerging technologies

- Very strong multitasking skills will be required. Must be comfortable in a dynamic fast paced environment.

- Good estimation skills, able to provide reasonable estimates for yourself and others.

- Experience with Agile methodologies

- Ability to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions when tools don’t work

- Experience working with resources in different geographical locations and offshore vendors

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with NoSQL database like MongoDB or Aerospike - Experience with financial services or brokerage industry

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
