​The Mainframe System Performance/Capacity Team is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the mainframe z/OS infrastructure from the system capacity and performance perspectives.  This includes research and recommendations of workload for sufficient performance and capacity to support business requirements during or outside of the Market Day. The Mainframe System Performance/Capacity Team is a small team with a variety of responsibilities.

This candidate will be responsible for report creation (Excel, Tableau) of workload trends as well as updates to TPM (ThruPut Manager) and WLM (Work Load Manager) to manage workload through the mainframe z/OS systems.  This candidate will support the daily Market Open Monitoring call and processes as a representative of the MFPERF/CAP team.  Further, this candidate will be responsible for the ‘Market Open Recipe and Capacity’ document and quarterly team reviews to ensure Market Open goes smoothly when involving the mainframe systems

Required Qualifications

A willingness to learn and support Mainframe Systems (LPARs) for critical and development business workloads.  This Specialist candidate will work in a small team with Senior Level Performance and Capacity engineers to ensure the Mainframe systems are running efficiently and with sufficient resources for the workloads supporting Schwab clients (internal, external).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, CIS, Computer Science, or related field.
• Current knowledge of Mainframe Concepts and Facilities.
• Demonstrated understanding of CEC, Image, and other Mainframe Capacity Concepts.
• Working Knowledge of WLM (Work Load Manager) product, including policy updates.
• Knowledge of CF (Coupling Facility) and configuration updates.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the HMC (Hardware Management Console) and how to update profiles, WT-share, processor, storage, and other configuration parameters.
• Knowledge of TPM (ThruPut Manager) to manipulate batch jobs for service classification or system affinities.
• Considerable knowledge of Tableau for charting mainframe statistics, including MSU Consumption, CICS transaction and Db2 Stored Procedure trends.
• Support and monitoring of Mainframe Capacity and Performance during Market Open.
• Ability to understand and update the Mainframe Configuration charts.
• Able to utilize Mainframe tools, such as: TSO, ISPF, SDSF, CECMON, RMFIII, and GEM.
• Proven ability to create/review/approve/install Change tickets (CRQs) using Remedy or Smart/IT with an understanding of the SYSCHG process to stage changes (CRQs).
• Effective communication skills within the MFPERF/CAP team, with other Mainframe teams and Leadership.
• Desire to work in a small, cohesive team and participate on multiple, concurrent initiative
