The Director, Technology Operations Resiliency is responsible for leading the vision, architecture, design, development, integration, and ongoing enhancement of purpose-built resiliency and operational tools for Infrastructure & Operations and the broader Schwab Technology Services organization. This role provides enterprise-level leadership for recovery readiness, resiliency execution, automation, AI-enabled operational improvement, architecture strategy, and technology recovery capabilities that support the stability, availability, and recoverability of Schwab’s proprietary technology environment.
The Director will define and guide future-state architecture, design patterns, integration approaches, workflow structures, data models, automation frameworks, and platform capabilities required to support enterprise recovery and resiliency outcomes. The role requires strong technical judgment, deep operational knowledge, and the ability to translate complex infrastructure, application dependency, recovery, and resiliency requirements into scalable, secure, supportable, and maintainable technology solutions.
Your Opportunity
This is an opportunity to lead a highly visible technology resiliency function that directly supports Schwab’s ability to maintain operational continuity during disruptive events. The Director will help shape the next generation of resiliency tooling, operational tools, automation, AI-enabled recovery capabilities, and enterprise architecture alignment. The role is critical to reducing manual effort, improving recovery consistency, increasing operational readiness, and enabling teams across Schwab Technology Services to execute more efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Strategy, Design, and Technical Direction
- Establish and guide the architecture strategy for Technology Operations Resiliency capabilities across Infrastructure & Operations and the broader Schwab Technology Services organization.
- Define future-state architecture, design patterns, integration approaches, data models, workflow structures, automation frameworks, and platform capabilities that support recovery and resiliency objectives.
- Translate complex infrastructure, application dependency, recovery, automation, and resiliency requirements into practical architecture decisions and executable design direction.
- Ensure resiliency tooling and operational platforms are scalable, secure, supportable, reliable, integrated, and aligned with enterprise technology standards.
- Partner with architecture, engineering, infrastructure, application, database, network, cybersecurity, and operations teams to deliver resilient and maintainable capabilities.
- Identify current-state tooling, process, integration, data quality, and architecture gaps and develop future-state recommendations to address them.
Technology Resiliency Strategy and Leadership
- Lead the continued vision, architecture, design, development, and enhancement of resiliency and recovery tooling for Infrastructure & Operations and the broader Schwab Technology Services organization.
- Define and drive strategic capabilities that improve recovery readiness, operational resiliency, execution consistency, data quality, and cross-organizational alignment.
- Provide thought leadership on automation, AI-enabled solutions, recovery orchestration, and technology resiliency practices that can scale across multiple Schwab Technology Services functions.
- Partner with senior leaders, technology teams, architecture groups, application owners, infrastructure teams, Cyber Recovery, Network, Database, Patch Management, and operational support groups to align resiliency capabilities with enterprise needs.
Operational Tools, Automation, and AI-Enabled Capability Development
- Own the ongoing enhancement of purpose-built operational and resiliency tools that support recovery planning, execution, evidence management, reporting, automation, dashboards, workflow orchestration, and operational decision-making.
- Identify and deliver automation opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve consistency, accelerate recovery processes, and increase confidence in recovery execution.
- Evaluate and promote practical uses of AI and automation to improve recovery readiness, operational workflows, reporting, data quality, and team productivity.
- Ensure tooling capabilities support multiple technology verticals, including Disaster Recovery, Resiliency Runbooks, Network, Infrastructure Technology Operations, Database, Cyber Recovery, Patch Management, and Key Business Transaction functionality.
Enterprise Recovery and Operational Readiness
- Lead capabilities that support enterprise-level recovery objectives, resiliency execution, and operational continuity.
- Ensure solutions support recovery readiness, reduce operational risk, improve recovery outcomes, and enable consistent execution across teams.
- Partner with application and infrastructure teams to ensure recovery tooling and processes align with Disaster Recovery Plans, Resiliency Runbooks, dependency mapping, recovery objectives, and evidence expectations.
- Support enterprise socialization, adoption, implementation, and ongoing use of resiliency capabilities across Schwab Technology Services.
People Leadership and Cross-Team Collaboration
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members and technical contributors responsible for resiliency tooling, automation, reporting, architecture alignment, and operational support.
- Build strong partnerships across Schwab Technology Services and related organizations to drive adoption, alignment, and shared ownership of resiliency outcomes.
- Communicate complex technical and architectural concepts clearly to executive, business, operational, and technical audiences.
- Lead through influence in a matrixed environment, balancing strategic direction with hands-on engagement where needed.

Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in technology leadership, infrastructure operations, technology resiliency, disaster recovery, recovery tooling, operational tooling, automation, architecture, or related technology domains.
- Demonstrated ability to define architecture strategy, guide solution design, establish scalable design patterns, and influence technical direction across enterprise technology platforms.
- Experience translating complex infrastructure, application dependency, recovery, operational, and resiliency requirements into scalable, secure, supportable, and maintainable architecture and design solutions.
- Deep knowledge of infrastructure platforms, operational processes, recovery practices, application dependencies, data center or cloud resiliency concepts, operational architecture, and technology operations.
- Experience designing, developing, implementing, or leading enterprise technology tools, platforms, integrations, automation capabilities, workflows, dashboards, or operational reporting solutions.
- Strong understanding of Disaster Recovery, resiliency planning, recovery execution, recovery validation, evidence management, operational continuity, and recovery readiness practices.
- Proven ability to identify manual processes, design automation opportunities, and deliver sustainable improvements that reduce risk and improve consistency.
- Experience partnering across infrastructure, application, database, network, cybersecurity, operations, and enterprise architecture teams.
- Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to present architecture direction, strategy, status, risks, decisions, and recommendations to senior leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor technical teams, develop talent, and drive accountability for delivery outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading technology resiliency, disaster recovery, infrastructure recovery, cyber recovery, or operational resiliency programs in a large financial services or regulated technology environment.
- Experience with automation platforms, scripting, orchestration tools, workflow automation, AI-enabled productivity tools, reporting platforms, data quality improvement, operational dashboards, or platform integration.
- Familiarity with cloud, hybrid infrastructure, multi-region recovery, data center operations, application dependency mapping, technology recovery architecture, and enterprise architecture governance.
- Experience supporting recovery validation, resiliency exercises, disaster recovery testing, runbook execution, audit evidence, or regulatory expectations related to operational resilience.
- Experience influencing senior leadership and driving enterprise adoption of new tools, standards, architecture direction, or operating models.
