The Compensation and Benefits Accounting team is part of the Corporate Controller’s Department, which is responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the Charles Schwab Corporation and subsidiaries. In collaboration with our business partners, we provide comprehensive financial information to shareholders, management, regulators, and tax authorities.
The Accounting Manager will manage compensation, payroll and benefits processes. This position will report directly to the Team Manager of Compensation and Foundation Accounting.
What you’ll do:
Prepares and records monthly and quarterly journal entries, primarily related to compensation, benefits, payroll and the Charles Schwab Foundation.
Reconciles balance sheet accounts and manages subledger data
Prepares variance analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
Prepares monthly reporting for internal business partners and schedules used in quarterly external reporting filings
Executes and understands internal controls to ensure a SOX compliant control environment
Work closely with business partners throughout the organization to ensure timely and accurate recording of business transactions
Identifies and executes on process improvements
Analyzes large sets of data involving general ledger, sub-ledger, and payroll data
Completes special projects and ad-hoc requests
Develops and maintains strong cross-functional relationships with team members, internal business partners, internal and external auditors, and reporting teams
What you have

Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience related to accounting and month-end close functions in medium to large companies. Experience with compensation, benefit, and non-profit accounting preferred
Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Can articulate sophisticated technical issues in a way that non-experts can understand
Exceptional at building internal and cross-functional relationships
Strong attention to detail
Excellent time management skills
Constructively challenges existing processes with the aim of improving processes and controls
Proactive, results-oriented operating style
Ability to quickly analyze data, respond to changing demands, and present alternative solutions that are in the best interest of business partners while remaining compliant with accounting policies and GAAP
Ability to effectively document financial results, work papers, and conclusions in an effective and efficient manner
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Preferred Qualifications
- Financial services industry experience a plus
