Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

We are driven by our purpose to champion every client’s goals with passion and integrity. We respect the diversity of our employees, clients, and communities, challenge conventions to create value, and invest in the long-term success of our people.

The Enterprise Security Master (ESM) people leader will lead the product management function for a critical enterprise reference data capability within the Reference Data Platform Strategy and Support organization. Reporting to the RDPSS Senior Team Manager, this leader will manage and develop the ESM product team while setting clear product direction, strengthening execution, and ensuring ESM delivers reliable, timely, and well-governed security master data to consumers across the firm.

ESM is a modern security master platform that supports the creation, maintenance, enrichment, and distribution of authoritative security reference data. The platform’s quality and reliability help downstream business and technology teams identify securities consistently and support trading, operations, client experiences, risk management, and regulatory obligations.

The role is accountable for balancing ESM product strategy and delivery with legacy ITEM security master retirement, platform modernization, production stability, corporate action and pricing dependencies, data quality, control effectiveness, risk reduction, and measurable stakeholder outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop the ESM product management team, establishing clear priorities, accountability, role clarity, performance expectations, succession plans, and meaningful growth opportunities.
  • Own the ESM product vision, roadmap, initiative portfolio, and outcome-based priorities in alignment with Reference Data Platform strategy and enterprise objectives.
  • Partner with technology, operations, data governance, architecture, risk, vendor management, and downstream consumers to turn business needs into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive ITEM retirement and ESM consumer migration outcomes, including dependency discovery, data mapping, readiness criteria, adoption planning, risk management, and controlled transition from legacy capabilities.
  • Provide leadership for production issues by defining the problem, impacted systems and consumers, incident population, business and client risk, workarounds, resolution plan, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Establish strong product operating rhythms across discovery, prioritization, quarterly planning, delivery, release readiness, deployment validation, controls, and post-implementation measurement.
  • Use data to evaluate product health, delivery progress, quality trends, operational risk, capacity, adoption, and realization of expected business outcomes.
  • Communicate concise, transparent updates to senior leaders, clearly outlining progress, decisions, risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and next steps.
  • Build trusted relationships across ESM consumers and partner teams, creating shared understanding of priorities and resolving cross-functional and cross-platform blockers.
  • Support vendor and data-source strategy, including service quality, contractual capabilities, data rights, issue management, resiliency, and alignment to target-state architecture.
  • Champion continuous improvement, practical automation, reusable knowledge, and responsible use of artificial intelligence to improve team productivity, documentation, controls, and data quality.

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, and developing others, with a proven ability to foster engagement, support career growth, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment. Participation in formal leadership development or aspiring leader programs is highly valued.
  • Strong product management leadership with experience defining strategy, roadmaps, measurable outcomes, and prioritized backlogs in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Ability to balance strategic change with production stability, operational commitments, control expectations, and delivery capacity.
  • Sound business judgment and the ability to make clear decisions amid competing priorities, ambiguity, risk, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills across business, technology, operations, risk, data governance, and senior leadership audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience using data to size issues, identify root causes, assess risk, and guide product decisions.
  • Knowledge of security master, pricing, corporate actions, market reference data, or instrument data and how authoritative data supports front-, middle-, and back-office processes.
  • Experience leading product delivery through agile methods, including discovery, requirements, backlog management, planning, release readiness, production validation, and outcome measurement.
  • Knowledge of complex data platforms, batch and real-time integrations, data lineage, vendor feeds, data quality controls, resiliency, and downstream consumer dependencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant product, data, financial services, technology, or operations experience, including meaningful people leadership responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of ESM and ITEM capabilities, with the ability to assess how platform decisions affect consumers, employees, clients, controls, and firm outcomes.
  • Experience leading product teams responsible for enterprise security master or reference data capabilities supporting equities, fixed income, options, funds, exchange-traded products, or related instruments.
  • Experience with both operational functions and change management of security setup and maintenance, symbology, corporate actions, end-of-day pricing, vendor data, and enterprise distribution patterns.
  • Experience with application modernization, legacy mainframe retirement, data conversion, consumer migration management, platform resiliency, and operational readiness.
  • Familiarity with SQL, relational and non-relational databases, APIs, asynchronous messaging, batch processing, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and enterprise data governance practices.
  • Experience operating in a highly controlled financial services environment; securities licenses are helpful but not required.
